Description
We are a registered charity supporting Q’eqchi’ Maya families in a remote and mountainous region of Guatemala. Volunteers are based in our office a short bus ride from Antigua. Our aim is to empower families through education, training and nutritional support, as well as sustainable agricultural practices.
At the moment we have two, multi-use learning and training centres where mothers attend classes focusing on food production, hygiene, childcare and family planning. We also help families get access to surgery and medical services that are beyond their reach.
In 2018, we helped nearly 700 children from 137 villages out of severe malnutrition.
We are looking for volunteers with experience/skills in administration, digital and social media, video editing, web design, writing and research, to help in our office based in San Pedro Las Huertas (around 20 minutes by public bus from Antigua).Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

You will learn about the history, culture and the issues facing Q’eqchi’ Maya families in the Alta Verapaz region.
With the accommodation/office being so close to Antigua, you will be able to visit world heritage sites, attend Spanish classes, learn to salsa, and enjoy the plethora of other activities on your time off.Aide
Due to the nature of the work, please note that fluency in English is mandatory and Spanish is a bonus. At the moment, we can only host one volunteer at a time.
Responsibilities may include organizing and updating digital files, online research, as well as managing social media and volunteer recruitment pages. While there are no pets in the accommodation, some pet sitting maybe required.
Our office hours are Monday – Friday, 8 am – 1pm. This gives the volunteer the afternoons and weekends to enjoy Antigua/surrounding areas and major destinations, like Lake Atitlan and the Pacific coast.Langues parlées

In a gated community, we have an independent building with one room for the office and a private en-suite room for the volunteer. There is also a kitchen and access to a private garden with great views of the mountains. The bedroom has a comfortable single bed and there is an electric/hot shower in the bathroom. The kitchen is small but well-equipped with a stove, an electric kettle, fridge and microwave.
Main food staples are provided too, and Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. Laundry is available at the host’s house, which is a two-minute walk from the accommodation.Autres infos...
A local bus can be taken from outside the community gate to Antigua, there is one every 10 minutes and the fare is Q2. Uber is available at Q21, and the volunteer is provided with a phone (with internet) to use.
