Eileen stayed with me for almost a month. Mid Oct 23 to mid Nov 23. Eileen is a lovely person. Fitted in well. She was very self sufficient and got on with tasks. She brought her bike with her, and travelled around the local areas. She helped with a multitude of tasks, she was there when you needed her, but also happy in her own company.

Janet's place is very nice, surrounded by beautiful nature and a lot of very friendly animals. The horses are very nice and you'll get to ride in the yard or outdoor if you have experience. there is a cosy studio second floor of the house where you will have your own privacy. You'll buy your own food with Janet and you can get whatever you want,
… read more she is not picky at all. there is a lot of trust and independence and the work is not super hard. it's mainly taking care of the yard and horses, and helping with general maintenance like painting of gardening.

I got the pleasure to stay two weeks at Janet’s house. Janet was my first workaway experience and it couldn’t have gone better.
We started the days by feeding all the ponies and horses. Afterwards we cleaned all the stables. In the afternoon if Janet had horse riding lessons we used to tack and untack the ponies.

… read more very grateful. I used to do dressage with both Sally and Bell and I was impressed with the progress with them. They were all heart! We also went several times to the field with Janet. There we galloped and jumped in the cross-country.
I was very welcome in the house. I had my own bath and room. I felt free to enter the kitchen anytime, make my cooking and buying any kind of food. There were two workawayers more and we made some cultural exchange.
To sum up I loved this experience so much. Besides I had a great time walking around and listening to all the wildlife, especially the crows.

Christina spent 3 months with me. This was fantastic as she got to know the running of the yard. She looked after dogs as well as horses. Christina did many different yard tasks while here, and put her dressage riding skills to use on tuning up some school ponies, schooling young ponies, and improving ponies who were heading to sales. I stayed at Janet's for three months, starting in May and it was a great experience. In the three months I learned a lot about horses and the work around them, even though I have been riding for more than 15 years now. Janet has such a vast knowledge and she shares it with you all the time. During my time there I did a lot of yard work, such as
… read more powerhosing, painting, pulling the weeds and picking up poo. Regarding the horses I groomed them, tacked them up, got them inside and out to the fields and fed them from time to time. I was also able to help when the farrier and the vet came. I really liked riding the ponies that Janet has, they were a joy to ride, even though I had to get used to riding in a jumping saddle at first😅 On my days off I either went along with Janet to the shows and competitions or I went on walks through the countryside, sometimes to the local supermarket, even though that takes more than an hour for one way. I loved going to the sales and the horse fair with Janet, because it was such a new experience for me, we don't have anything like that here in Germany and it was really interesting to see all of that. We even got to see the International Eventing Competition in Millstreet and walked the whole course with Janet, where she talked us through the best way to approach every obstacle, which was so insightful and amazing. All in all I had three nice months at Janet's, I met lovely other workaways and I will definitely miss the dogs especially Tinki. Marina and Hannah spent around a month with me. They are very easy to get along with. They did a multitude of tasks that were required of them. Day to day yard duties and horse care. We spent one month with Janet and it was a great experience.
The work was very balanced between yard work, work with the horses and some riding. Janet always explained what she expected and showed us how to do the tasks so the work was never to hard and we always knew what to do. We could usually ride at least once a day (sometimes in the arena,
… read more some hacking and sometimes participating in lessons) which was really great! The tasks included getting the ponies from the field and tacking them up, some fencing, weeding, cleaning stables ect. There was usually some variety so we never did the same thing for too long.
On the weekends we could come to shows, we even got to see an international eventing competition which was a really great experience!
As mentioned in the profile the area is really quiet so there isn't much to do in your free time but it's very peaceful and perfect for long walks or runs.
We had a little apartment for ourselves which was really nice and we could usually go grocery shopping with Janet and choose what we wanted to eat.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay and learned quite some new things about horses and eventing!

My tasks were never too difficult and the balance between leisure and work was good.

I was delighted to host Julia for just over 3 weeks. I would certainly have kept her much longer, if she did not already have another placement booked. Julia is a friendly person and easy to get on with. She can see what is to be done, and is well capable of getting on with tasks without constant supervision. She did yard work and rode horses

Very nice Horses on the Farm in Ireland. The Apartment is very small and covered with mildew. Much microwaveable food and less fresh food is supplied. I stayed for two weeks with Janet and would recommend it to anybody who loves horses. The work, if you are horsey, is just like having your own and not work at all, and helping with the riding school is always fun! My stay was great. I enjoyed the work (moving horses, helping in the ridingschool, cleaning, painting etc.) and my freetime (explore the beautiful surriunding). During my stay I learned a lot about young horses, competitons and life/work on a Equestrian Center.
