Description
Thanks for all the nice people contacting us during last summer, hosting has been very positive experience for us ❤️ We’d love to host this summer again, starting from May onwards!
———-
Help needed at our sunny homestead farm this summer! Come and join our crazy family of 5 and help us take care of our animals, kids, garden and renovation projects. Friends, couples or small families also welcome!
Our family of 5 consist of me, Salla, stay-at-home mama, my crazy-ass American husband Eric who also runs an international medicinal mushroom company here in our village and our 3 kids aged 9,8 and 3. All our kids speak and understand English and are super outgoing personalities (at least for being Finns, haha).
The name of our tiny farm means a sunny place in Finnish, and it truly is sunny - when it’s clear the sun is shining here from morning till night. It is situated almost in the middle of a tiny countryside village of Karjalohja so you can walk or bike to the nearest grocery store, library, pharmacy, beach etc. Even though we are in the village, you’ll be surprised how peaceful it is as our property opens to the beautiful grass fields (we have 2 hectares). We bought our traditional Finnish 50’s farm house 1,5 years ago and have been slowly renovating it and starting with keeping animals and garden. Besides having 2 cats, 2 beehives, 14 chickens and 10 ducks, we just got 6 cute young sheep for the summer to help us keeping the overgrown fields in check.
There's many other workaway hosts around here and most of them are our friends, so there's a good chance meeting up with other workawayers. Our village is known for the beautiful clean lakes surrounding it so there’s always a lake in walking distance. We also have a row boat near by, which you can borrow any day for a peaceful lake trip or go fishing.Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

We have pretty international friend circles, but quite Finnish ways of living here. With us you have possibility to meet with a lot of nice people, learn from us and our friends while enjoying the Finnish countryside vibes. Eric knows a lot about business, start-ups, medicinal mushrooms as well as building (in his past he traveled around the Europe as natural builder).
We are hoping to learn from you and your culture as well! Don't hesitate to reach out and tell us about yourself :)
If you’re interested in medicinal mushrooms, Eric knows it all and happily takes you to visit the mushroom factory.Aide « au pair »

We have need for ongoing help around the farm, like feeding the animals, looking after the kids, cooking, stacking firewood for the winter, renovating etc. Also this July we have a couple of short trips coming, so house sitting during those times would be then the main task (taking care of the animals, watering and weeding the garden if needed). If you’re handy, there’s always plenty of renovation projects around to help us with. This summer we will be building a terrace, partly starting to paint the house, and finishing smaller projects inside the house if the weather is bad for outside work. Also we will be working on our still tiny garden, that we basically started from scratch this spring and fenced to protect from the deers.. So making raised beds, planting some fruit and nut trees, perennials etc will be happening in the garden the next couple of summers at least. That in mind I'd be really happy to work with someone with gardening/permaculture experience as well!
Our kids are pretty easy going and doesn’t need too much looking after, but love if someone offers to play with them, take them to the beach or the playground or for ice cream. As they go to a local Steiner/waldorf school, so we also participate a lot in the school work parties even this summer as we are renovating the school building.
Would be amazing if we could also share the cooking duties, or do it together. We eat quite a lot of meat as Eric also hunts in the fall time (mostly the white tail deer). We try to buy as much as possible organic and local food and there's also no problem if you're a vegan/vegetarian, especially if you like cooking and cook your own vegan meals :)
We would probably some days also go help our good friends at their cozy old farm in the forest that they are renovating and moving in to this summer. So a lot of diverse tasks depending of the day and the weather as well as your interests and skills!Langues

Teaching our kids your language and/or speaking only english to them would be highly appreciated :)Hébergement
So for the accommodation, we have a couple of options. In the old barn, there's a simple loft with beds in. That option is basically like living outside, as the barn is not at all insulated and very basic (imagine a simple wooden barn from the 50's), but mosquito nets would be provided to keep those tiny vampires away. The first workawayers could also have the task to make that loft space cozier, paint, fix and decorate it for themselves and the next workawayers. Earplugs for sleeping maybe also recommended, as the rooster lives downstairs..
Second option is a bed in a van that has been converted into a camper van. That van would only be for sleeping, as it's not fixed for driving at the moment. There's a double bed inside it and offers a private sleeping area for example for couples. There's also a lot of space outside if you want to be camping in a tent (we have one, and a couple of sleeping bags if needed), or come with your own camper van!
We do have a free room upstairs of our house as well, so possible to sleep there as well especially if it’s cold outside or otherwise preferred..
Water toilet (we have just one) is in the main house, as well as the kitchen. We also have a traditional finnish sauna in the barn that we like to heat up every week.Autres infos...
We can pick you up from the nearest train station if arriving by train from the airport for example. Our village is situated in between the capital area (Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa) and the historical bigger seaside city Turku. Driving to those cities takes around 1,5 hours. Nearest bus stop is very close to us, but we have a very good shared rides whatsapp group for the village people as well, so getting to visit places shouldn't be a problem. If cities are not your thing, there's plenty of forest and nature around, and some small nice villages. We are happy to help you get around and see the area!
We don't want people to smoke at our property, so take that into consideration if you're a smoker.Informations complémentaires
