Description
Our farm is located in the Serra da Mantiqueira mountain chain - altitude around 1600 meters - three hours north of São Paulo city. We are a small farm surrounded by mountains and 22km from the closest town, Camanducaia, MG. We have been producing organic vegetables since 2005 and are currently in the stages of expanding our production. We specialize in greenhouse vegetable production and have a total of six greenhouses. For most of the year we produce a baby leaf lettuce mix, tomatoes, and peppers, alongside a large variety of other vegetables grown outside of our greenhouses. We sell the majority of our produce to restaurants, wholesale, and in the form of a box scheme.
We work with three people on the farm and the majority of our farm work is done by hand. Regular farm work consists of weeding, seeding, transplanting, harvesting, washing, and packaging produce, as well as basic farm maintenance.
We are a young couple, Pedro and Saskia, with three dogs; Pedro is Brazilian and Saskia is Dutch/American. Pedro is an agronomist and has extensive experience in organic farming. Saskia has worked extensively in social work with a lot of experience on the side with organic farming. We recently moved back to Brazil from the USA to farm our land in Minas Gerais. We have an endless list of interests and hobbies and are always eager to meet new people.

Volunteers will help with all aspects of running our farm day to day. We ask that volunteers be willing to work from 7am to 11am Monday to Friday, interact with non-english speakers, respect the daily work schedule, and be interested about organic farming.
Work can consist of weeding, seeding, transplanting, harvesting, packaging, and basic farm maintenance to mention just a few of the tasks that happen on a regular basis.
Depending on the time of year there may be one dominant activity happening. We do our best to give all volunteers a varied experience and an opportunity to learn about as many aspects of organic farming as possible.

Hébergement
Our volunteers will have a small house to themselves, consisting of one bedroom with two twin beds, kitchen and dining area, and a bathroom shared with other employees,. Internet is available for volunteer use in our house. We receive a maximum of 2 volunteers at a time and require a minimum stay of 2 weeks.
Volunteers are responsible for providing their own breakfast and lunch in the house which they stay in. Dinner from Monday to Saturday is shared with us in our house. Volunteers are expected to help with cooking dinner two times per week. All ingredients for dinner are provided by us. Vegetables from our farm are available for volunteers to use at all times.
For volunteers with dietary restrictions please keep in mind that we do cook with meat and dairy products on a regular basis. However, we are respectful of different diets and are very open to try them.
Autres infos...
Volunteers on our farm will have the opportunity to live in a very beautiful and rural area. The local community where our farm is located is varied and offers a very realistic view of rural Brazilian life. English is not spoken by locals of the community and volunteers will be able to learn and practice portuguese. Due to the altitude of where we are located, the climate is different from much of Brazil with a cold winter and summer highs of 25º C. The region has a very unique fauna and flora.
If volunteers are really interested about farming and organic production, it is a great opportunity to stay and work with us. Pedro has a masters degree in Horticulture and organic vegetable production, and is always willing to share his knowledge and farming experiences.
Our farm is located in a remote area and the region where we live offers many opportunities for hiking, enjoying nature, and solitude!
Please remember that we are a working farm and there is always more work in a day than we can possibly accomplish. We ask that all volunteers respect our farm and our working life. We look forward to welcoming you to our farm!
