Description
We are building a sustainable habitat in the north west of Cordoba, Argentina.

We are interested in bio-construction, organic farming, geodesic domes, appropriate technologies, permaculture design and natural waste disposal.

We are 3 km from San Marcos Sierras, a very interesting, sometimes touristy town that's known for both its local traditions and its hip(py) flare.

We are currently, 3 argentinians and an australian living permanently and in our own communal way.
We are all glad to share our way of living and meet travellers.
You will learn how we deal with the resources we have, how to organize and dispose of our waste, and you will meet
our friends and neighbours, too.
There´s a lot going on culturally and artistically in our neighbourhood and village.

We do intensive work in the mornings, starting around nine. We work communally and cooperatively in all tasks, from construction to cooking.

En Junio 2022 pasamos una semana en Eco-Lab. En esta semana no habia muchas tareas y lamentablemente el clima estaba bastante frio. Lo que hicimos era lijar y pintar una escalera y buscar cortadera para los adobes. Los espacios comunes son muy lindos con una cocina y comedor grande, wifi y lavanderia.

I spent 3 weeks there during winter, and I thank them for hosting me. The place could be very pleasant because it’s in the middle of nature. In this farm, they recycle things every day and they worry about food being not thrown away. This eco-lab is focused on bioconstruction. They don’t grow vegetables and that’s why they depend on buying veggies… read more from outside.
The hosts have been working with bioconstruction for years, so they know what they are doing. But they have little patience to explain their techniques and no patience to share time with volunteers. If you don’t know much about permaculture and you want to learn, I don’t advise you to stay here.
It’s important to remember that permaculture is, along with caring about nature, caring about people, as well as sharing time. But they don’t do this here, it’s partial permaculture. And if you’re a vegetarian person, be prepared to listen to jokes about it during every meal.
The volunteering tasks are not previously assigned, with little or no planning at all, which makes the group waste time. The house has no structure to host people during winter. It’s really cold here, but there is no heating and the kitchen is totally open to the garden. If it’s not a sunny day, you won’t have hot water either. It must be nicer be at this place during summertime… Thumbs up: the Wi-Fi connection is really good.

Estuve por 3 semanas en el invierno, y les agradezco por haberme recibido en su granja. El local puede ser muy agradable por estar totalmente en medio a la naturaleza. En esa granja, reciclan materiales todo el tiempo, se preocupan por la basura y por la comida, que sea totalmente aprovechada. El eco-lab es más enfocado en bioconstrucción, acá no hay huertas, por eso dependen todo el tiempo de comprar vegetales de afuera.
Los chicos trabajan hace mucho con biocontrucción y entienden mucho de lo que hacen, pero tienen poca paciencia para explicar sus técnicas y poca paciencia para compartir el tiempo con los voluntarios. Si tu no entiendes mucho de permacultura, y quieres aprender, mejor no te quedes en este eco-lab. Es importante recordar que la permacultura, además de tratar la tierra y la naturaleza, es también el trato entre la gente, el compartir tiempo, el cuidar. Pero esa parte no lo hacen. Es permacultura parcial. Y si eres vegetariano, prepárate para soportar chistes sobre ese asunto a cada comida.
Las actividades de los voluntarios no son programadas previamente, hay poco planeamiento y poca logística, lo que facilita el desperdicio de tiempo. La casa no tiene estructura para recibir gente en temporada de invierno. Hace mucho frío en la granja, no hay calefón, la cocina es totalmente abierta. Y si no hace sol, tampoco hay agua caliente para la ducha. Creo que en verano debe ser más agradable estar en el eco-lab... Un punto positivo es que la red wi-fi funciona muy bien.
