WE ARE INTERESTED IN STAYS WHICH MAY BE LONGER THAN A YEAR. wE CAN EXPAND ON THIS VIA EMAIL.
Our family raises cattle on 375 acres in the Precipice Valley located approximately 40 kms SW of Anahim Lake. We are a cow/calf operation, currently running 50 mother cows. Accommodations are in either one of the two ranch homes. An additional guest cabin is available. Meals, which are not exclusively vegetarian, are usually shared, as are the associated domestic chores. There may be times where you will be responsible for your own food preparation. You will have access to our larder.
We are off grid, producing our own power with solar technology. While very remote, we are phone and e-mail capable. We are bush road accessible from mid May through mid November. Any time in November, snowfall can convert accessibility to snowmobile only (or skis and snowshoes if you are tough). During April and the first half of May, access can be difficult due to breakup conditions. We are 15 kms off the maintained road. There is no public transportation to Anahim Lake except air flights from Vancouver, the schedule of which is changeable.
We play hard and work hard. Work consists of fence construction and repair, general construction and repair of buildings (we have our own saw mill and wood working shop), machinery repair, field work including vegetable gardening, haying, gathering firewood, and general livestock feeding and management, including calving. Summer and Fall are our busiest times of the year. A familiarity with machinery, including chainsaws, is a asset, but we can use all kinds of help. Play consists of hiking, fishing, bear and other wild life watching, sitting on the deck watching the world go by, and social gatherings in our small community. There is one other family in our valley who are engaged with other websites or other similar organisations. We often share visitor resources. We are part of a very interesting and diverse network of people, and you never know who is going to show up. Musicians are welcome as I am a player who looks for any opportunity to play. Mosquitoes and black flies are in residence in the summer months. We have had very positive experiences in the past with volunteers, and have made some good friends in the process. We look forward to hearing from our next visitors.
If you would like to get a sense of what goes on here in the Valley, google Precipice Valley BC and you will find lots of photos, blogs, stories and descriptions of goings on. We have had very good luck with couples over the past several years, and are set up to allow privacy.

What is is like to hang out with a bunch of old Hippies. You will meet lots of people, explore this beautiful area.
We always have construction projects going on. We have our own sawmill to develop lumber for construction. We use round logs for timber frame work as well. We calve out our cattle herd in April/May. June is gardening, range management, firewood, fence repair, and Grizzly bear watching. We begin haying in mid July. That process usually runs through to the end of August. Every few weeks, we check on the cows out on the range. We try to go fishing when time allows. The cows come home in late September. We sort and ship in October/November. And then, like clockwork, it is winter again.
We have two guest cabins, one of which is fully self contained. Both have internet access.
We do not allow smoking in our residences. We are not set up for visitors with pets, and do not have pets ourselves.
There are lots of hiking opportunities. There is good fishing in the area. We are very isolated, so when you are in, you are in. Trips to town (Anahim Lake) which is 35 kms away are infrequent. Major food and supply trips are to Williams Lake, which is 350 kms away, and are made three to four times a year. When you arrive in Precipice you need to be sure that you have personal necessities you may need for a longer stay in.
