Jay and Neale are originally both from the UK, but lived in Los Angeles for 20+ years. They met in Los Angeles, and got married in Kauai, Hawaii in 2000, and both worked in the Entertainment Industry:
-- Jay as an Executive Director for Sony Pictures with a role as a Project Manager.
-- Neale as a scenic painter for all the major Hollywood Studios working on TV commercials, music video, TV shows, and films.
They bought a house in Bodrum, Turkey, and made it their home-base in 2015. Neale has been busy renovating and improving their home ever since. He's expanded his skills to include small rendering, plastering and tiling jobs. Jay started her own freelance Content Marketing company to help small business owners and entrepreneurs to build their online presence and reach their target audience, through content and social media. She is a travel writer and author who publishes travel guides and nonfiction books. She also runs an Indie Press to help other authors publish their books.
They mainly split their time between Turkey, Los Angeles, and the UK (but love traveling to other parts of the world too).
Background in the UK:
Jay's background in in Hospitality, and she attended a Technical College in Norwich, UK to complete a Hotel Reception Course before working for the hotel chain Trusthouse Forte where she moved around different hotels in the UK working in the different departments (house keeping, kitchen, bar, restaurant, and reception) as part of their trainee Innkeeper training programme. She has also worked in restaurants in London, New York and Phoenix, Arizona.
Neale served his painting apprenticeship in Manchester and worked on high-end residential properties, before relocating to Los Angeles to begin his scenic painting adventures. He is a member of the Hollywood Painter's Union where his skills as a wall paper hanger, faux and scenic painter are in continuous demand. He goes back to Los Angeles periodically to work on specific shows. In his twenties he traveled extensively and spent summer seasons on Crete, Greece where he worked in a restaurant in the front of house and in the kitchen as a commis chef.
What we love:
We both love to travel and have a sense of adventure. As homeowners, we're used to the ongoing chores of house maintenance. We're both avid gardeners, and like being kept busy. We have done multiple house sitting gigs via Trustedhousesitters.com and we have an extensive profile over there. We both have a creative streak in us, Jay dabbles in sketching, watercolors, and Neale plays an acoustic guitar although our enthusiasm for these hobbies outweighs our talent!
We quit our full-time jobs to pursue a new life in foreign lands so that we have the flexibility to travel and experience a better quality of life doing what we love, rather than doing what society expects us to do. We're looking for new adventures and experiences that will broaden our outlook on life and help us cross paths with like-minded people who are following their dreams.
We both have a love of crafts and over the years have dabbled in lots of different mediums. Jay loves sewing and covered both our couches, made curtains, cushion covers, and bedding, as well as lots of smaller projects like drawstring bags to sell at craft fairs.
Our favorite sightseeing activity when we travel is to visit local markets. We both love to cook, and traveling has exposed us to a myriad of regional cuisines. Our cooking repertoire is a fusion of international ingredients and flavors and we enjoy creating meals from scratch. Jay also enjoys making chutneys and tapenades — and anything else that goes well with cheese!
