Hi there,
Thank you for reading my profile!
I am currently travelling in Tasmania having left Japan at the end of 2023, where I worked as an elementary school English teacher for a total of 8 years, in three different stints.
I started my latest sabbatical in January 2024, and I am looking for interesting workaway experiences in places I have yet to visit, including my current location in Tasmania, and thereafter Switzerland, Finland and the Faroe Islands.
Four years ago, on a previous break from teaching, I enjoyed numerous wonderful and varied experiences with workaway hosts in Scotland (sheep farming, dog-sitting), Norway (running a guesthouse in the Lofoten Islands) and Chile (farming in Patagonia).
I am a well-travelled, mature, independent but sociable person who is easy to get along with, and I am always looking to learn new skills.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
I am eager to help in any way as I am a quick learner and open-minded.
I have experienced a whole range of tasks during my workaway experiences so far, e.g. painting, cleaning, log splitting, gardening, animal care, farming, heavy lifting, general house maintenance, and so on.
I like to keep myself in good shape so I am fit and would be fine with any physically demanding work.

I am very much an animal lover, so I would particularly enjoy workawaying in an environment full of pets!
I am also good with children, given that I am an elementary school teacher by profession, with five nieces and nephews who I love interacting with :)
I am not a great cook (very much an understatement), but I will always be a willing helper in the kitchen when needed, and I actually enjoy washing up - it's therapeutic!

I had the pleasure of staying with Emily and Rhino for just under two weeks, and to say I was well looked after would very much be an understatement.
The fridge and cupboards in my spacious room were stocked to the brim with fruit, veggies, beers, snacks - more than enough to keep me well fed for breakfast and lunch, which I prepared myself.… read more

Penny and Steve were very friendly and likeable hosts, and the same can be said for their daughter Liz, and their adorable dogs Percy and Betsy. The family was so kind in taking me to places of interest, such as Cradle Mountain and Rocky Cape, while also trusting me with their vehicles so I could drive to Leven Canyon and the local caves.

Richard was an excellent Workawayer. He did everything we asked and learnt quickly how to use all the electrical tools that we have for gardening. We have a large mower and he got the hang of that quickly. About the only piece of equipment that he did not use was the Caterpillar - which takes weeks to master! Richard is an interesting, pleasant and hardworking guy. He is cheerful and willing to have a go at anything. Worrying about what he likes to eat is no problem as in emergencies just give him a tin of Heinz baked beans. He was a pleasure to host and hope he finds lots of interesting placements for the rest of his gap year.

Evelyn is a very bubbly, sociable, laid back and caring person who treats the workawayers fairly, making sure that they don't exceed the agreed 5 hours of work per day, whilst ensuring that they have two days off per week.

Richard was fantastic with my pups. They loved each other from the first walk and feed!!!
I was away for most of the time but my husband was around and "tried" to cook for Richard. Not all meals were successful!
I would definitely recommend Richard for any work - he is very adaptable.
