Description

We are Katie (28) and Thomas (28), and we are excited to find a workaway oppurtinity in Central America (El Salvador and surrounding countries) for November/December 2023, where we will be travelling for 10 weeks.

As a couple, we enjoy traveling together. In the past year we have hiked across the entire island of Madeira and later this summer we are going to hike and camp in the French mountains for two weeks. We’re really excited for a longer period of traveling together in Central America later this year. Currently both of us are based in the Netherlands, working desk jobs and living with our pets. We are interested to explore different ways of living, being closer to nature and people.

Katie is born in the Unites States, but largely grew up in France and has lived in Western Europe for the past 10 years. She is adventurous and empathatic, and loves meeting new people. Katie is an optimist and is always enthusiastic about learning new things. When possible, she wants to be in nature, preferably hiking and camping. When she’s not in nature, she’s just as happy crafting: sewing or doing pottery with friends. She has really enjoyed teaching both at university level as well as with younger kids, and would like to see if this is something she wants to pursue further. Katie is a native English speaker, fluent in French, and basic in Spanish (learning), Dutch (learning) and Belgian French Sign Language.

Thomas is Dutch, and has enjoyed travelling around the world, especially in Latin America. He likes being in nature, both hiking and working in his own vegetable garden. He enjoys cooking with the products he grows himself and sharing his knowledge and passion about gardening with others. In the past year, Thomas has renovated his apartment and has enjoyed learning buliding skills and doing hands on projects. He holds a masters degree in Geo Information Science, with a focus on remote sensing for agriculture. Having worked a desk job for two years, Thomas is eager to experience different ways of living that are closer to nature and allow for sustainable living. Particularly, he’s interested in learning more about permaculture and building things with his hands. He also has experience in the service industry, working several bar and restaurant jobs, where he discovered his passion for food and working closely with people. Thomas is a native Dutch speaker, fluent in English, and intermediate in Spanish and German.

We hope to find workaway opportunities that allows us to work with our hands in nature and learn from other people. We are happy to share our knowledge and skills in any way that we can. We are really excited to see what opportunities come our way!
