  • Description

Hello! My name is Pedro, I am 32 years old and I am from Brazil.

I am new here! I just started my profile.

Considering this is a community that encourages people's interaction, I could start by sharing my view about something crucial: I think the most important thing is to be myself always, it is a personal commitment. I always cared about being spontaneous and now I care much more, because we live in the age of illusions. Some people are trying so hard to look cool online and perhaps they become a character, another version of their own selves. So, I'd rather be who I am and I appreciate the same behavior.

The freedom to move is something fascinating and I think I could say that I am a free animal, who loves to wander around alone. A few things that I find interesting: travelling, exploring new places, meeting new cultures, exercising, sarcasm, video games, movies, books, languages and history. I like to be where I can feel peace, meditate and enjoy the silence, which is something completely taken for granted nowadays, society is too loud! Yes, the modern lifestyle overwhelms me sometimes.

I really like languages. I can speak Portuguese, English, Spanish and Italian. Right now, I am learning French and German. I aim to be fluent in each one of these languages. Videos and photography are something else I enjoy. I took so many photos of everything that catches my eyes: landscape, animals, plants, buildings, artefacts...

And last but not least, I always loved history. I think that, by learning the local history, is a way to respect it. History is not only written on books, something about old things and dead guys. It goes beyond. It is in the local traditions, clothing, food, music, celebrations, architecture, languages, religions and much more. The past shaped the present. Whenever possible, I go to places to enjoy all of it and I had the privilege to be in many sites and to see many things. It is a fuel for my life. Always being led by my interest for the past, I started a funny hobby: I became a reenactor in Italy. What's it? Well, basically I like to dress just like people used to do centuries ago and then take part in any related event, usually with another group. We have fun and try to teach about the period being reenacted.

My feeling for this matter played an important role in my formation path. In Brazil I got a degree in museums studies and I have studied archaeology in Rome, where I lived for 7 years and worked there as a tour guide. Definitely that city will always have a place in my heart. I want to go back there next year to start a master's degree, always focusing in archaeology (I am not sure if I mentioned before that I love history).

Right now I have time and my plans are wide open. I decided to travel in Latin America as a volunteer, because that is something I have always been curious about and wanted to try. I could say I have 2 main goals by doing so, which are to practice Spanish and to face new challenges, exposing myself to different situations that will require an open mind and commit to it. I hope to be useful to whoever opens the doors for me.

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

In short, I like to learn, I like to share what I know, I like to teach.

I have a lot of experience with languages. I speak Portuguese, English, Spanish and Italian fluently. I am currently learning French and German, and I believe I am at an intermediate level in both. I have experience as a private Italian teacher from 2017 to 2019. The material I used was entirely created by me and the classes were personalized.

In Brazil, I got a degree in museums studies and from 2015 to 2017, I studied archaeology in Rome, where I also participated in some excavations. For the last 5 years, I have lived in Rome and worked as a tour guide, which was a real dream for me, as I am very interested in the history of Ancient Rome. All of my formation was fundamental for me to be able to develop professionally as a guide. Not only the historical knowledge, but also the knowledge in other languages was essential, because the tours I gave were mostly in English, however it also happened in Portuguese, Spanish and Italian. Therefore, I can say that I have worked with tourists from all over the world. Initially, I worked for a website that offers the famous "free walking tour" style and, in 2022, I decided to offer my own tours through the AirB&B platform, where I kept the "free walking tour" recipe and achieved more than 1,000 reviews... which is a great personal joy! Plus, I really like photography and video production. I have a little experience with editing. I have edited videos for an English school in Brazil and I have edited videos for a project I have on YouTube, whose goal is to produce educational documentaries about archaeology. However, in recent years I have focused on my career as a guide and the project ended up being put aside. Next year, I intend to resume it. For example, the following video was made entirely by me. The idea was to explain the most famous portrait of the first Roman emperor. If you want to watch it, it is in Portuguese though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wh6bcEvIoYE

Well... and I can handle life's daily tasks: cleaning, gardening, animal care and cooking. I like animals in general, especially cats (I had one). I cook for myself and, if the right ingredients are available, I can prepare a legendary carbonara. In Rome, it happened to take care of my friends' pet and garden whenever they were out for a long period. Either I would sleep in their place or I would go there to feed it and water the plants.

If possible I would like to offer my skills in this platform, dealing with guests (maybe helping as a tour guide, maybe in a hostel reception), teaching languages (English, Italian, Portuguese) or even creating content (photos and videos). However, I could also give a hand in other tasks (like cleaning, gardening, animal care) and, hopefully, I could learn new skills.
