Hiya!
I'm Emily, a small-town girl taking on the big world. I'm an avid supporter of discovering new places, laughing out loud, and trying everything once (especially food!).

I just finished up an incredible year exploring the beautiful country of New Zealand on a working holiday. I spent my time between both islands, living in a colorful campervan and working in hospitality, a bird sanctuary, and fundraising.
Now I find myself in Australia on another working holiday, and am excited to still be exploring the southern hemisphere!

Before traveling to NZ I was managing my family's hardware store in our small hometown, which, among many other skills, allowed me to really get to know my community and develop close relationships with nearly all our customers. That sense of connection is what I enjoy most about life these days--whether it be at work or while traveling--and is one of the reasons I appreciate WorkAway so much.

I enjoy spending time outdoors--whether on a hike or wandering the streets of a new town--meeting people from all over, learning new games, spending time with friends, playing ukulele, singing in the car, and appreciating the small things. My friends and family would say I'm laid back but hard working, cheerful, always willing to lend a hand, trustworthy, and a pro at slipping as many puns as possible into daily conversation :D

I live by believing that eventually all the pieces fall into place; until then, laugh at the confusion, live for the moment, and know that everything happens for a reason.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

When I'm not traveling, I help manage my family's hardware store back home in Ohio. It's a small-town local store where coworkers feel like family and I get to connect with my community every day, which is definitely my favorite part. I also help out "behind the scenes" as office manager, making sure things run efficiently. Overall, I enjoy problem-solving, providing great customer service, and helping people out in any way I can.
I consider myself fairly tech-savvy and can help with basic computer skills. I've been told I am a good writer and pretty darn good at catching typos when editing.

I'm a very go-with-the-flow person, interested in trying all sorts of new things: food, experiences, activities, lifestyles, etc. I consider myself an ambivert--introverted with some moments of extroversion. I love chatting with people but also value my alone time. I enjoy going out with friends but also enjoy a chill night of reading, movies, or games. I also value spending time outdoors, from hiking to chilling on a blanket in the sunshine. I'm hoping to leave this year abroad in NZ with a whole bunch of skills and experiences under my belt!
