Hello!

Call me Samuel; I am hard working, reliable, responsible, intentional. My dream is to see 100 countries, 80 of which I've already crossed off. I am an artist at heart, a lover of knowledge and truth, and I try to act in good faith by being radically honest with myself. I believe the the two most important things are experiencing new things in life (Growth), and our connection to ourselves, other people, and animals.
I truly love people, the connections I make while I travel are what make traveling so special. For me, knowing others for who they are and making them feel seen is the most important thing I can do. I enjoy playing music and singing with others, cooking together, or just spending time walking with people. I speak Spanish (barely), and want to learn more! I want to become fluent. I smile a lot, laugh often, and I really enjoy living life!!
I'm not a party person, preferring early mornings and quiet sunrises. I have been Alcohol Sober for almost 3 years now.
Oh, and now I'm bald :')

I am traveling the world since 2016 and have been to 80+ countries. Some cool things I've done:
1. Hitchhiked from Vancouver, Canada to Ushuaia, Argentina.
2. Thru Hiked the AZT (800 miles)
3. Worked in a Non-Profit in an Egyptian ghetto
4. Hiked El Camino De Santiago with no money except for what I made while Busking on the streets.
5. Hiked to Everest Base Camp on my own.

Why you should consider taking me in: I will always do my best at whatever job I am given. I prioritize people, and find meaning in creating a warm and safe space for others to be vulnerable and open. I will bring a lot of energy and life into any environment I am in, and I enjoy creating events for guests (music nights, games, sunset viewing, etc). Oh, and I absolutely adore cats and dogs.

(My one negative feedback was from a hostel that seriously wanted us to work 80+ hours a week, which I found to be exploitative and wrong. I'll work hard, but I expect fairness and human decency)

I have a list of skills. Professionally, I have been working in hospitality for a many, many years. I could add that I am a painter, entertainer, writer, and I am good at listening to instruction and following through, while also having enough confidence to propose new ideas or suggestions. I love to play guitar, my style is Indie Folk (Think "Iron and Wine" or "Sufan Stevens")

I speak several languages. English, German, and Spanish. And about 7 others, but only the basics.

Whether it's a skill or not, I really get along with people. I love knowing new faces, hearing their stories, and listening to their adventures. Relating to others is sort of like relating to myself- by hearing other people, I am better able to understand my own mind and the environment I am in.

Volunteering at the hostel was great!! The staff were very very nice, we always had a delicious breakfast included. Working there was relaxing and easy, with game nights and events. Okay, so! After spending nearly three months here, it felt really strange to get back on the road! The hostel truly felt like a second home for me, and I will miss everyone there. Let me quickly rave about the place before I list the pros and cons~~

First of all: Julia and Verona. These two are really great to work for and learn from. They defend … read more their volunteers like lions, and will be sure to support you over the guests. This is very important because it happens sometimes that people come who are rude or mean. It's so good to know that they value human experience more than profit, and this really shines forth. The city is beautiful: So relaxed and open, lots of growth here, and the people are kind.

Pros:
1.Work is very simple: Basic receptionist duties, making people feel welcomed and cared for, and keeping an eye out for things like messy rugs.
2. Occasionally, you may be asked to help with additional projects like painting murals, rocks, or other things. These are done on your shift time.
3.The hostel attracts some of the greatest people ever!! It seems like 99/100 people are wonderful humans with great ambitions and kind hearts. The other staff are also wonderful! I've been good friends with staff, as well as guests alike.
4. It is very easy to enjoy your time here, even if you are working. You can practice your Spanish with Tati, or your Albanian or Italian with Verona and Juli. Speaking of which, they are very accommodating for your needs.
5. I always need a set schedule, and they helped alot with that :).
6. The building itself is great! Orange, lemon, and mandarin trees litter the grounds, the beds are alright (you will get a set down bed in one of the rooms). The kitchen is stocked with pots, pans, plates, and dishes for you to use. And the hostel is very close to all the main attraction, clubs, bars, and centers. There is laundry, Wi-Fi, and showers.
7. Breakfast is ALWAYS superb.

Cons: Sometimes you must be persistent about asking for food. This wasn't a problem for me because I ate out most of the time anyway (a big hot sandwich for 80 cents, whaaaat).
CONCLUSION:
DO NOT HESITATE TO VOLUNTEER HERE!! it really is such a wonderful place. Juli, Verona, and Tati are so kind, the guests will be your best friends, and the city is beautiful. Seriously, I cannot recommend this place enough times, I was sad that I was leaving!! It is such a good work away :)

I seriously cannot recommend this workstay enough: Everyone made me feel like a part of their family, the work wasn't too hard, the food was amazing and delicious, and I was able to learn so much about horses and an alternative way to train them.
