Description
Hello! My name is Maddy and I am thrilled to be apart of the Workaway Community. My whole I have felt a strong sense of passion and urgency to travel and discover the World. I believe that getting out of one's comfort zone, not only just experiencing, but, truly IMMERSING oneself into different cultures, languages, and gaining knowledge is what life is really all about! :) Creating unique experiences and making meaningful connections is what motivates me to make traveling a number one priority in my lifes. That is why I studied Tourism at San Francisco State University, and have been working in the travel industry the past 2 years. I have recently taken a break from working to travel full time again, and I am super excited to do so!

I believe that it is super important to be a well-rounded person.
My first experience through WorkAway was in Fall 2020 helping restore an old hotel. It was such an amazing opportunity that provided a lot of growth and learning for myself. Throughout Workaway and through my father's' construction business, I have accumulated a general knowledge in construction.
Throughout March-May 2021, I did 2 different WorkAways volunteering in hostels in Albania. Tirana Backpacker Hostel in Tirana & Wallaby Hostel in Sarande. Both were great experiences that let me use my education of hospitality and tourism in a real life situation.
I also did a WorkAway in Croatia in June 2021 where I was helping a local family put with housework, childcare, construction, and gardening.
I worked as a nanny for a 3 year old in San Francisco from 2021-2022, and have spent a lot of time volunteering and babysitting with many children of all ages. In 2020 & 2021, I spent several months with kindergarten and first grade age children, helping them with online Zoom classes and independent school work while school was remote.
I have a lot of experience in food handling, such as preparing food, as well as customer service interactions. I was working from 2017-2020 as a Dietary Aide for a Residential Treatment Center that houses people with severe mental illness. Working in this environment exposed and taught me how to interact with individuals that can be difficult and stressful to work with.
I love art, specifically painting, and have years of experience in building up and maintaining these skills through Marin School of the Arts, which was a program within my high school.Âge
