Levi:
Currently studying at Western Washington University, USA, I feel most alive when I'm having new, unique experiences. Interacting with people of different cultures and getting the opportunities to explore new places brings me the greatest happiness.
While participating in a workaway, I hope to be able to spend more time in nature (hiking, watersports, etc.), and develop new skills for my future career relating to the environment. I'm very much looking forward to having fun trying out new things, as well as making genuine connections with people along the way - something else I think is very important.

Rin:
Hi I'm Rin, currently studying International Relations in Tokyo. I'm a wanderlust enthusiast who loves meeting new people and soaking up different cultures. I've lived in Senegal, Madagascar, and Benin for 15 years and now I am living in Japan. Tokyo's fast pace was a bit of a challenge for me, but I made the most of it by exploring places outside the city—turned out to be a success!

I enjoy both solo and group travel, especially in nature. Recently, I picked up scuba diving, which was a blast! Also, I've taken a liking to snowboarding, despite not being a fan of the cold—guess it changed my perspective!
I'm up for any experience or challenge and can't wait to meet new folks ;-))

Levi: Having studied abroad in Japan for one year, I'm used to language exchange between very different cultures. Becoming proficient in Japanese has allowed me to learn more about language in general, and making me feel confident with learning and teaching languages.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
Levi:
Having only started to love the outdoors in the past couple of years, I still only have a base level of experience in that regard, but am always extremely excited to learn more!
Also, having enjoyed cooking for most of my life, I have experience in the kitchen making a variety of dishes. Of course, I'm always looking to up my skills and learn new styles and cultures of cooking!
I have a PADI Advance Open Water license and am very interested in progressing my scuba diving skills!
Other skills include working with computers and photography.

Rin:
On the job front, I've done a bit of everything, from cashier and barista to French teaching and working in a house for flower shop. I'm into photography, videography, and editing, using art as a stress reliever. I am totally open to all opportunities and open to trying out handicrafts! Looking forward to connecting!

Other hobbies that we have include scuba diving and snorkeling, slacklining (look it up if you've never heard of it - it's a lot of fun!), taking walks and exploring outside, reading, and watching movies. For a while now we've also enjoyed being mindful and practicing meditation most days, so we'd love to gain any insight you might have or to meditate together!

Spending a week with Taís and Carson was a really great experience!
Their property out in the forest was really beautiful and living there was unlike anything I've experienced before.

Especially with lots to do around the property and few distractions like the internet (which was able to be turned on if needed), it was a great refresh for my mind.

The work was difficult but rewarding!
I was not used to working outside at all, but I learned a lot along the way and it felt really good to be outside all day moving my body. With Carson's expertise in carpentry and botany, I learned about building practices and native prairie plants. Over the course of the week, I cleared areas of plants, hauled soil and compost, built rock and brick barriers, chopped kindling and moved firewood, moved logs and helped make planter boxes, and helped to install a simple solar system in their log cabin where I was staying.

The food we made and ate together was great! It was almost entirely vegan, which was completely new to me and was really fun to try. One evening we had some fresh ground beef from Carson’s mother’s farm which was as fresh and delicious as all the other food we had. We ate breakfast and dinner together, having a usually light lunch midday.

If you like cats and dogs you’ll love it here!! Lupin the cat was happy to come and sleep in my bed every night I was there and Schafer the dog will follow you anywhere you walk. Their other dog and cats are great too, but these two stood out to me as very sociable, haha. They also have a few chickens.

Throughout my stay I had really great experiences connecting with Carson and Taís, learning about their lives and their workaway journey and taking advice for myself in the future. We had dinner at Carson’s mother’s house on Taís’ birthday, and I spent a good amount of time hanging out with their ~1 year old baby who was a lot of fun to be around, even though I had no experience with babies beforehand :) Working around the property and going kayaking in the river with Carson, spending time helping to cook with Taís, and everything else made me feel almost part of the family even after just one week.

Overall it was an amazing first workaway experience, and I would love to go back to help out again someday!
