Description
We are two friends currently studying in Bern, Switzerland. We met during our high school exchange in Barcelona years ago.
I'm Johanna and I'm currently studying Geography with a minor both in Geology and Sustainable Development. I'm half English, half German and grew up in Switzerland for the most part. I love being outdoors, especially climbing and hiking. I enjoy physical labour and through workaways I have loved being a part of construction projects, wether that entails gardening, digging or drilling walls. Yoga and meditation help me to slow down in this busy world. I did a yoga teacher training while travelling in South America and lately I’ve been getting more into meditation. I’m a curious person and love exploring — both the world around me and what’s going on in my own head.
I'm Mia and I'm currently studying Psychology, Neuroscience and Geography.I grew up in Eastern Switzerland. I’m interested in human nature, and learning from people with different perspectives is something that continuously inspires me. I feel most at home in nature—not just admiring its beauty, but seeking to live in harmony with it and, wherever possible, give something back. In my free time, I love to dance as a way of reconnecting with my body and expressing myself. I’m also someone who thrives in community and enjoys exploring new surroundings—whether on foot or by bike.
Johanna did her first workaway staying on a permaculture farm in the Columbian jungle a couple of years ago and loved the slower and more intentional way of travelling. Last summer together we did a bikepacking trip through Italy and stayed with an Italian couple, helping them with the construction of their house with natural materials. We really enjoyed working on the house and learning all about what it takes to build a house from scratch. The sense of community felt really special. -

We learned a lot about building with natural materials and received good instructions but also a lot of freedom to just try it out and express ourselves.
We felt like we became a small family during our time here and are thankful for the cultural immersion and your patience … read more
