Description
Hi Workaway hosts - Jackson from Melbourne, Australia here. I decided to open my Workaway profile and seek volunteering work as I have a passion for learning about new cultures, meeting and learning from interesting people and providing my skills and energy to help others - I can see how volunteering would assist each of these aspects. I have a strong interest in bettering myself, helping others and being mindful. I feel as though I can provide a careful hand in several different fields and can learn fast in areas which I'm less experienced. I have farmstay experience, housekeeping experience, pet/animal care and care for people with disability. I love connecting with people and find that I contribute well in a team setting as well as individually. I have 4+ years of professional sales and marketing experience but changed my career in 2022 to care for those with disability. My hobbies include playing sport (especially Australian football & basketball), playing guitar (not very well haha!), music, art, reading, learining languages, cooking, spending time with friends and attending different events. & travel of course!! I like to think of myself as an open, friendly, and non judgemental person willing to try new things, make new friends and learn from each experience.

I began leaning Spanish at home in Melbourne 3 months before leaving on a 9 month backpacking trip in South America, December 2024. I attended Spanish school for 2 weeks in Lima, Peru, and obviously practiced my Spanish skills throughout my travels of South America. Since coming home in September '25 I have continued with online Spanish lessons 2-3 times per week. Currently in level A2.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
I have a background in customer service and sales after studying Marketing and Communications at Swinburne University in Melbourne. I realised that working in this field wasn’t fulfilling me and I wanted to do a job helping people, so I began supporting people with disabilities. My brother has an intellectual disability (Downs Syndrome) and I think the patience and empathy I learned growing up with him helps me to work well in disability support . Having played football most of my life, I also tend to think I have a high work rate and work well in teams. I care for the quality of my work and like to perform to a high standard. I find that I can work with most types of people and can bring a fun energy to the workplace. I’m a punctual person and most of the time organised. I feel I have a problem solving brain, work well with computers, think I can write decently (always wanting to improve though) and am also pretty good with numbers. I enjoy learning and learn quite fast as well.

I love to teach about Aussie culture, sports and music! I’m also half Sri Lankan and love to teach about this beautiful culture, food, landscape etc as well.
I play chess on my phone and have a mini board which travels with me. I also travel with Uno and Monopoly Deal haha.
Love movies!! Unfortunately I haven’t watched a lot whilst travelling but when in Australia it wouldn’t be uncommon to find me at a cinema haha.
Other than that, I think I’m a positive person always willing to learn from other people and make new friends :)
