Hey there, I'm Ira!

I'm a poet/biochemist, taking a gap year or two before applying to graduate school. I'm on workaway so that I can travel while making meaningful connections with the people and land I visit.

Generally described as: hardworking, respectful, easygoing. I'm a social person but do especially well with solitude. After the workday is done, I usually head out for a long walk or spend time writing.

-general farmwork: preparing beds, planting, organic pest control, weeding, harvesting
-landscaping: cutting and clearing brush, building stonewalls
-animal care (chickens & horses)
-home renovation: insulation, drywall mudding/taping/sanding, painting
-cleaning/organizing
-novice carpentry (comfortable with power tools)
-cooking!! I'm not a chef by any means but I love cooking with people

Other areas of knowledge include: wild edibles/foraging, growing mushrooms, fermenting, natural dyes, pottery/ceramics.

Ira is a worker bee, getting things done that they see need doing even without being asked. That's super appreciated around here! It was a real pleasure to meet Ira and have to chance to be helped by him and his friend Solange.
He is not afraid to work and was really helpful on various types of tasks (helped in the garden, chipping branches, painting, oiling wood, cooking, cleaning, etc).

The other reviews are true! Peter is a guy who loves to host, and does it well. The accommodations were fantastic. I stayed in the “playhouse” which is a cozy micro-cabin, enjoyed my morning routine of yoga in the yoga studio every morning, and the cooking was some of the best and most elaborate I’ve received from a workstay. Ira did an excellent job as a WorkawAy. He did some of the regular stuff like splitting wood, moving gravel, and clearing brush. He also took care of the chickens and turned the compost.
