Hello everyone,
Almaz here, and I'm ready for my next adventure!

In mid October, I will be flying into Porto from London. My plan is to fill the following couple of months (up until just before Christmas) with new experiences, connections, and different ways of discovering that part of the world.

A little about me: I’m 31, with a lifelong love for nature and exploring. Growing up half Italian and half Ethiopian in London gave me the gift of three cultures and shaped my curiosity about people and places. I'm bilingual in English and conversational Italian (which I’m eager to brush up on). I love meeting new people from all walks of life - I’m always looking to discover something new about the world, or about myself, through those connections.

I tend to spend every summer in the Aeolian Islands (Isole Eolie) off the north coast of Sicily, where my family home is tucked away in the countryside of Lipari. Childhood there meant long days outdoors, finding little adventures to keep us entertained, and I think that’s where my love for creativity and imagination in nature really stems from.

My passions are rooted in the arts - especially film (see below). I also love music, reading, art exhibitions, and gardening.

Work-wise, I freelance in film production—as an assistant director, production assistant, photographer, or videographer. Capturing life through storytelling has always been a big part of who I am, and I'm always with a camera.

As I’m freelance, I’ve decided to take the next few months off to explore Portugal and Spain through workaway. I’d love to stay at each place for at least a month, lending a hand wherever needed. I’m friendly, hardworking, reliable, and adaptable - happy to get my hands dirty, whether that’s helping build something, pitching in with housework, or whatever else might be useful. I like to strike a balance between creating a fun, lighthearted atmosphere and getting the job done.

I’m hoping to connect with hosts and fellow travellers who can share new perspectives and experiences.

I try to avoid touristy spots and use those opportunities to dive deep into local life to really understand a place and its people.

Some of the best moments and memories have been off the beaten track, with beautiful food, communities and culture.

Diet wise, I lean mostly vegetarian, though I also eat fish and meat, so am very flexible with vegan or vegetarian kitchens. I try to get creative when it comes to the kitchen. Whether that's Ethiopian or Italian cuisine or just using the ingredients I/we have and seeing what we can come up with. I really think the way someone cooks says a lot about them, and I'm excited to share/exchange recipes and techniques.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I’m looking for voluntary roles where I can contribute both practically and creatively. I’m adaptable and open to helping with a range of tasks such as gardening, basic DIY, cooking, cleaning, and general household support.

As I mentioned in my bio, I freelance in film production, therefore would be able to offer support with filming, photography, editing, and managing social media content if useful.

I also have experience with administrative tasks and reception work, so if your place is a retreat or hostel I’d be more than happy to assist in more organisational or guest-focused roles.
