Hey, I'm Alisha! :)
I'm 21 years old and currently finishing my 3rd year of university, studying philosophy and computer science in the UK. I'm originally from California and when I was growing up, I would spend my summers on a farm in the Los Altos Hills. This has given me a deep appreciation for nature. I feel most happy and at peace when gardening or surrounded by nature (forests, lakes, mountains!). I loved being around the farm animals and milked cows, fed newborn baby goats, took care of baby pigs and newborn chicks, and cared for horses. At home, my mom and I take care of many plants and trees, including fig, avocado, orange, pomegranate, and lemon trees, and tomato, mint, hydrangea, and various cacti plants!
I am quite calm and optimistic, and I value making meaningful connections with other people through conversations, activities, and a shared interest in getting to know one another in a respectful and genuine way.
Some of my hobbies include running (I run cross country for my university!), learning different crafts such as making earrings, embroidery, sewing dresses, and watercolor painting, photography, and journaling. I have experience working at the sustainability center at my university and was a barista for a few years so I can make great coffee (at least in my opinion!).
I will be working at a nonprofit organization in New York City starting in August, teaching computer science to young women to empower other women to get into the field of technology and help achieve gender equity in computer science. Before then, for the month of July, I am seeking a workaway opportunity as an ending to my wonderful time in Europe to reflect on myself and connect with others! I'm interested in learning about your culture and sharing mine (Indian, Chinese, Malaysian-American), through food, language, and tradition. I speak English and Mandarin Chinese fluently.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I have experience gardening at the sustainability center at my university and at home! I love taking care of plants and enjoy the daily ritual that comes with gardening. It also provides me with a sense of connection to nature.
I also LOVE cats! I fostered six kittens last summer and when I'm at home, I volunteer at a cat shelter, so I know how to interact with cats, clean up after them, feed them, administer medication, take care of the litter box, etc. and I enjoy it very much.
I enjoy baking a lot and have great recipes for banana bread, a zucchini walnut loaf, and Singaporean pineapple tarts. I love cooking with fresh food and enjoy incorporating things I grow and produce from local farms into my cooking.
I also have a lot of experience with technology (I study computer science) and have a lot of experience teaching (mostly young children).
Finally, I am a quick learner so I'm happy to pick up new skills while staying with you! I'm also very open-minded and willing to learn new skills.
