Description
Hi all! I'm Alex and I'm 25 years old. Over the years Workaway has taken me all over the world, from farms in the jungles of Belize, the mountains of Switzerland, the meadows of France and the fields of Kentucky, a co-op / hippie commune in Northern California, a honeybee sanctuary on Maui, Hawaii and a gorgeous island in Washington state! I've also spent 3 months traveling Southeast Asia, and a life changing 2 months doing conservation research in the bush of Madagascar. I leap at any opportunity to dig my hands into the dirt and learn alongside new friends of all ages.

My passions are really centered around animal husbandry, foraging, becoming knowledgeable about the land, homesteading, bushcraft, and living in harmony with nature. I am very drawn towards ancestral ways of living, embodying a sense of reciprocity with and love for the natural world, and recognizing all that mama earth provides for us! I would love to improve my milking skills, as I love working with and raising animals, from goats to kitties to horses. I would also really love to learn more about foraging for nutritional and medicinal plants. I also love teaching kids about the wonders of the earth, basking in the sunshine, eating delicious homemade food, and immersing myself in new cultures.

I graduated from Skidmore College in upstate New York where I was on the rowing team, studied Biology and worked with an equine veterinarian. Now I am wandering and absorbing all that comes my way - off on a great adventure to see where the winds blow me! Part of the year I work at a forest, earth skills school for kids in Maine, and in the summers I lead teen wilderness expeditions!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
I have a lot of experience in child care (infants, toddlers, young kids & teens) and animal care (equine veterinary skills, raising pigs, caring for ducks, chickens, cows, sheep, goats, fostering dogs and cats, working with honeybees), I spend summers leading wilderness trips for teen girls (and as such I'm certified in wilderness first aid and lifeguarding), I've worked on livestock and vegetable farms in Switzerland, France, Belize, Kentucky, California and Washington and a honeybee farm in Hawaii, I have experience in park maintenance including shoveling, weeding, and some construction, I'm skilled at cement mixing, enthusiastic about getting muddy, English is my first language, I have tutoring experience, and can drive a car (manual and automatic). I additionally would be eager to improve my skills in any area!

I am eager to learn from different cultures, would love to be hosted by a family, and am always open to interesting, diverse experiences! I like to push myself to try things that are different or new, as that's when the real growth happens, and I love getting my hands dirty. I'm a hard worker and very diligent.
