We are two adventurous mechanics looking to experience new places, cultures and meet new people. We love anything to do with the outdoors and aren’t afraid to work long days and get things done. We are both independent and good problem solvers. We love trying new things and being taught different professions. We are quick learners and have a little bit of experience in basically everything between the two of us. We are both avid lovers of animals. Between the two of us we have cared for and raised a mini zoo of all types of animals including chinchillas, lizards, snakes, horses, dogs, bunnies, cats etc. We are up to any challenges and enjoy pushing ourselves. We are both currently employed at a small town shop that specializes in small engines but works on everything vehicle and machine shop related. From rebuilding starters / alternators to completely tearing down engines and refurbishing, our shop has seen it all.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Michelle: I learned alot of life skills from my father who was a jack of all trades, as well as a professional cabinet maker, who passed these skills down to us kids.

I recently finished my mechanic apprenticeship in Alberta and have been working throughout my life in the trade. From everything to machine shops, to building dragsters and hot rods, working on heavy duty equipment/ AG, fabricating/ welding and your every day maintenance, I have done it. I have also worked in auto body shops and painted my own car and motorcycle from start to finish. I have a passion for all things engines and enjoy learning as I go.

Construction work: I have laid tile and decorative rock, helped build a house and all the steps involved including sheeting the roof and floor, helping install trusses, constructing curved steps, installing windows, building decks, stairs and walls, digging and planning out the basement structure as well as concrete work. Also put up drywall and did some painting to name a few. I have done some small woodworking projects and have some finer skills in carpentry.
Heavy equipment I have operated and tools: tractors, skidsteers, backhoe, forklifts and some big trucks. I am good with drills, hammers, chainsaws, weed trimmers, etc.

Gardening and farming: planted and cared for a garden, cut grass and weeded flower beds, trimmed hedges, worked on some heavy equipment, worked on a dairy farm milking and feeding, raised cows and horses from young. I worked at an auction market and had to build fences, care for the animals, clean pens, and helped in the office. Also helped train horses on my last workaway project near Vancouver, BC.

Childcare: have been babysitting since I was twelve. I have many younger cousins as well as friends’ siblings. I like to create an engaging environment and pass on my life skills.

Cooking: I have been preparing meals since I was young and am familiar with gluten free, allergy aware foods and meal prep as I used to be allergic to many things. I am also good with vegetarian meal prep as my aunt was one and that is where I learned the majority of my cooking skills from.

Hospitality / Retail: I have worked in numerous restaurants as a server/ host / bartender and have gained lots of customer service skills. I also worked briefly in a hostel performing cleaning duties as well as front counter services. I have worked in a pet store, mostly taking care of the animals but also restocked shelves and was a cashier.

As an added bonus I’m also a hairdresser, I completed my training over the course of a year attending Blanche McDonald in Vancouver. I have my own tools for the trade and enjoy being a colour specialist but have skills in the makeup, wedding, and tv industries. I have worked in two salons but currently I mostly do it for family and friends and the odd customer as I decided to focus on mechanics for awhile.

Derrick: I have learned alot of different skills from my father and grandfather from welding to fishing.

I am a red seal journeyman automotive technician and have been working in the trade for the last 8 years. I have worked on many types or vehicles ranging from small cars to big trucks. I have alot of dodge and diesel experience and can efficiently diagnose faults in any vehicle. I also enjoy working on small engines and fabricating parts.

Welding: I have quite a bit of experience with a mig welder along with stick welding. Mostly self taught along with some guidance from my welder father. Most of my experience has been from constructing car parts for project cars, but have also recently been sent out for welding service calls at my job. These include gate repair, sliding door mechanisms and a little bit of everything in between. I have some skills with a tig but would definitely be interested in improving them.

Construction/ fencing: I have experience in construction towards drywalling, hanging tv fixtures, replacing electrical outlets, siding installation and general labour around sites. I have mended barb wire fences and installed posts. Heavy equipment and tools I have operated include, tractors, zoom booms, earth augers, basic hand tools such as drills and hammers, chainsaws, weed trimmers etc.

Restaurant/ Retail: multiple years experience as a dishwasher, as well as kitchen aid. Helped garnish dishes and desserts. Cleaned kitchen and area, maintained safe work environment. I helped out with the parts department at a dealership doing inventory checks and restocking. I haven’t had alot of experience with customer relations but am not shy and would be open to learning.

Animal experience: I have ridden a horse but not completely comfortable around them yet. I have raised dogs and cats and trained them. I have been around various other animals and enjoy taking care of small pets. I clean cages and attend other husbandry needs. I enjoy any chance to work with new and different types of animals.

Gardening/ lawn care: I have cut grass with pushmowers, zero turns, ride on etc. I have weeded gardens and flower beds, watered plants, help replant flowers and helped harvest.

We have a very loving, energetic husky puppy that we would love to travel with but this is not a necessity as we have people who will care for him when we are gone.
