Hi there! We are David and Maraike, a 20-year-old couple from Germany, currently exploring Australia on a backpacking adventure. We began our journey in Melbourne and have been traveling up the east coast to Sydney in our van which we then sold. We’re an energetic and open-minded duo who love meeting new people, learning about different cultures, and sharing our own traditions. Whether it’s telling you about life in Germany, cooking traditional meals, or introducing you to our customs, we’re always happy to connect.

Our Story and Passions
David is a passionate lifeguard who has worked with the German Lifeguarding Services, keeping an eye on swimmers at pools and beaches, as well as teaching kids how to swim. When it’s time to unwind, he loves to pick up his ukulele and play for a while.
Maraike has been playing handball since she was six years old. In Germany, it’s a very popular sport, and she’s proud to have coached others during her voluntary year at a handball association. She also plays in a family marching band and treasures the joy of making music together. In quieter moments, you’ll often find her crocheting or getting lost in a good book.
We’re both music lovers and listen to just about everything, though we often enjoy pop and exploring other people’s favorite playlists. When it comes to movies, we’ve been working through the Marvel storyline and can’t wait to revisit classics like Star Wars and Harry Potter. As for books, David enjoys fantasy novels and is currently reading The Emperor of All Maladies, while Maraike’s love for romantasy has her devouring the Kill the Queen series.

Our Australian Adventures
One of our favorite memories so far was celebrating Maraike’s 20th birthday in Melbourne. We had an incredible day at the AFL Grand Final festival, followed by a lively bar crawl and a magical visit to the Silver Circus. For Maraike, another unforgettable experience was feeding kangaroos at a wildlife park on Phillip Island. They were so sweet and gentle, it was hard to leave them!

What We Can Offer We’re friendly, hardworking, and always eager to help. Whether it’s joining in on a game night, cooking, or lending a hand with cleaning or repairs, we’re happy to contribute. Spending time with others, sharing experiences, and creating memories together are what we value most.

Our Skills & Experience

-Gardening:From cultivation and care to harvesting, we have hands-on experience in maintaining gardens.
- Pet Care: With experience caring for dogs, cats, birds, bunnies, and turtles, as well as a love for animals, we're ready to help with any pet-related tasks.
- Construction & Repairs: David’s practical experience includes using tools like drills, angle grinders, and jigsaws. He has worked with Loscam in Australia and contributed to a house renovation project in Germany.
- Painting & Creativity: Maraike has a talent for painting and enjoys bringing color and creativity to projects.
- Childcare: Growing up with younger siblings has given us valuable experience in childcare, and we enjoy spending time with kids.
- Cooking: We love experimenting in the kitchen and trying new recipes.
- Cleaning: With experience cleaning in a swimming pool facility (David) and a trampoline park (Maraike), we are thorough and efficient in maintaining cleanliness.
- Basic Renovation Skills: We have foundational knowledge in wallpapering and can do all kinds of small repairs required in home improvement.
- Technology: David has a strong understanding of technology, making him a quick learner for tech-related tasks.
- Animal Care: Having grown up on the countryside, David is familiar with animals like cows, sheep, and pigs. While our skills in this area are basic, we are eager to learn more and work with animals.
