Description
Hi! My name is Nikki- I am a spirited and open-minded person with a passion for exploring nature, learning and practicing sustainable living, and making art of all kinds. During past workaways, I've helped build off-grid structures like Earthships and adobe domes, plant and maintain permaculture gardens, manage compost, care for rabbits and chickens, paint a mural, tile a shower, chop wood, weed whack fire prone areas, cook delicious meals, and so much more!
I studied environmental engineering in school and have been working at a civil engineering firm in Massachusetts for the past year. I respect the field, it is very important and necessary work, but sitting at a desk for 40 hours a week and being confined by conventional design standards is not for me! At heart, I'm just a human who loves having my bare feet on the earth, being able to see the stars at night, and using my hands to grow, tend, build, and fix. My true passion lies in remediation, natural wastewater treatment, regenerative farming, and natural home construction. I love the creative revolution that is gaining momentum in these fields right now and can't want to get involved(: I hope to get my Permaculture Design Certificate soon!
I love doing workaways because I meet kind unique people and get to trade my effort for their wisdom and guidance. I enjoy using my body to work and am motivated to learn because I want to be as self-sufficient as possible in my own life. I am a good listener, enjoy company, but am also very comfortable working and living independently.
In my free time I love to hike, cook, do acroyoga, go on adventures with friends, photograph nature, host ecstatic dances, read, and do art (crochet, wire-wrapping, painting)!

-organic/regenerative gardening practices (compost care/soil building, planter bed construction, symbiotic landscape design, planting, watering, organic pest control, weed management, crop harvesting)
-bioconstruction (design, use of tires to make "earth bricks", earthbag mixture formulation and filling/ laying/tamping, cob/adobe/papercrete & lime plaster formulation and application, timber framing. Minimal experience with plumbing, electrical, roofing.

I grew up in Philadelphia, lived in Boston for 6 years, spent 6 months in Mexico and New Zealand, and two months in India and Nepal. I love traveling and giving recommendations based on my experiences!
I don't technically play an instrument, but I love to listen, sing along, and dance to music. Playing games and telling stories is always a sweet time with a group. Im always open to trying new foods, art forms, and adventure sports.
