Description
I am 22 year old student from the UK taking a break from my university studies and travelling. I am super outgoing - I love meeting new people, seeing new places and trying new things. I am ALWAYS up for an adventure. The world has so much to offer and so many exciting things to do and see! I want to do everything all at the same time!

I love sports and am really into the outdoors. Long hikes and adventures to secret places are the best. I can put up with most things - blisters, intense hot/cold, rain, spiders, snakes, insects, thieves, food poisoning haha. I've experiences all these and I am still alive so I guess I am doing something right!

I am really interested in Archaeology. Any ancient buildings and sites will blow my mind and I love talking to people about these things :)

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
I grew up in a rural area in the mountains of mid Wales where my parents have a small farm, so have much experience working outdoors and using my hands in manual labour. I have a wide range of skills when it comes to manual labour, but am also willing to apply myself to anything new in order to learn new skills! I spent a lot of time working on mechanics, carpentry, renovation insides of houses, plumbing, and general DIY etc with my father, maintaining land, gardening, and construction etc. Where I live, the garden and land always need maintenance; this includes cutting hedges, gardening, cultivating crops, working with livestock, building things, fixing machines, landscaping, building gravel tracks etc. Aside from being able to apply myself to many manual tasks using my hands, I am also advanced in IT software and computing. I am currently learning to code in Python but am struggling hah!

English is my first language although I am also fluent in Welsh which is compulsary in schools in Wales, and have picked up a beginners level in a few other languages. I have spent time studying for a Level 3 TEFL certificate and have experience teaching English to students age 11-16. I also spent a year in Africa travelling and exploring and voluntarily teaching English and taking part in other voluntry work. I can defo help you improve your English or help teach it where you are.

I can cook some great food and would love to share some of my recipes with you. I also have a large fountain of knowledge and love debating and philosphical conversations so if you like these things too then we will get on well!

Wow, where do I start? What an incredible experience this has been. I arrived in Zim at the start of March and made my way to Sekiwa’s family farm where I stayed for 3 weeks.
I can say with much confidence that during these three weeks of my life staying with Sekiwa’s family, I have learnt more and felt more enlightened than I ever could have… read more imagined. Maybe it is because Sekiwa and the family are so hospitable, kind, generous and caring. I guess there aren’t enough complimentary words to describe the goodness in the hearts of these people.
Sekiwa and his wife Amai Flo made sure I had everything I needed during my stay, and were always checking on how I was feeling and if I needed anything. The children here cook traditional Zimbabwean food for breakfast, lunch and dinner, which is very special. I like that they don’t use a lot of sugar or processed food, and basically everything I ate had been produced by the land we farmed. The diet is different to a typical european one, and sometimes people find it hard to adjust - but there is no shortage of food here. Every day we had fresh peanuts and peanut butter from the peanuts we harvested from the fields. There is delicious fresh and natural honey from the wild bees and tasty milk from the big milk cow we could milk each morning.
The beds and accommodation are simple- but comfy. The beds and clean and there are lots of blankets. There is no direct power, but instead solar panel powered batteries. These are more than enough to charge your cell phone or other electronics. However it is worth mentioning that the internet access here is limited. You must find a spot in the garden where you can pick up a small amount of 3G, which is really only enough to send a few whatsapp messages. Don’t expect to be able to surf the web and download netflix here. The connection isnt strong enough. It’s a great opportunity to detach yourself from your cellphone and tech world during the stay.
The days usually start at around sunrise or 6:30. The cockerals may wake you up beforehand though. You can work all day in the fields and veg garden plowing, hoeing digging, slashing etc. There are endless jobs to be done so you will never feel like there is no work to be done. I genuinely felt like I was making a difference and helping to develop the land. Water supply is from a well, and you can wash yourself in the homemade shower in the river which is a 5 minute walk from the house. There are no hot showers here but the girls are always happy to boil water for you to wash if dont want to use the river shower.
You will find everything you need in life here, and when you feel ready to leave sekiwa is on it. He knows all rhe people in Zaka district and can always find transport for when you want to go.
Once again, I would like to say an enormous thanks to Sekiwa and his incredible family. I will be back again to visit you all and check how the papaya tree’s I planted are progressing. :)
