I'm a curious wanderer who loves the little things in life (that are not so little), nature, animals and culture, among many other things. I'm open-minded and up for many different kinds of adventures and experiences; professionally and personally. I have lived for years in Ireland, Belgium and France so far, and I love to discover the world and its treasures, including its wonderful people from everywhere! I've been a part of multiple volunteering projects so far; helping, learning and growing my skills set and my personality. I don't see Workaway as a way to travel with free accommodation, and I definitely never apply to join a place without really wanting it badly and having thought about it deeply to be sure it was a fit for the host and for me, so if you've received a message from me, you can be sure that I'm 100% motivated and interested in you and your place!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
I have years of experience in marketing. My skills include writing content for different platforms, taking pictures, manage social medias, design documents to promote a product/business/project, plan marketing strategies, etc. I love storytelling, among other things, and I am very creative. I also worked for years as a journalist, for radio and writing press. And along the way I gain different experiences, even in the music industry, that helped me learn a lot and be very versatile! Through my multiple volunteering experiences (not only on Workaway), I also got to build, work with wood, set up an entire volunteering program, teach English, help neurodivergent kids, and take care of animals in sanctuaries.

Mélanie was such a pleasure to have about. Her contribution to workshops we held and working with our youth was just fantastic... Great sense of humour too. Best restaurant I've ever been to! The menu changes every day and makes you travel through your taste buds with delicious international dishes. Thailand, USA, Italy... Joke aside (but the food was really amazing!), Sam and Lou are the best hosts I've ever had as a volunteer. They're kind, thoughtful, funny, generous, interesting, nice, etc. They made me feel at home right away and I just needed 5 minutes with them to know I was going to feel great at their place. I'm not kidding, in the car with Lou on my way there I had that feeling, that I had never had before so quickly. I felt like I had finally met like-minded people and I was convinced it would go very well. And it did! They are absolute gems! They cared about me and I felt 100% comfortable with them, which is not an easy and common thing for me to feel.

I went to their place to help with the animals and some house chores because Sam had a broken leg and I've loved everything about my time there. All the animals are nice to be around, and taking care of them was an absolute joy. Picking up the poo included! I especially enjoyed all the cuddles and lovely moments with them (pigs, cats, dogs, cows, and roosters).

I've learned delicious recipes, discovered The Chase, watched my first reality TV, laughed, had good conversations, discovered an amazing band (TIPAS, Lou's band, go check them out on streaming platforms!) and so much more. Their house and the views all around are great. And their friends and family members I got to meet are too.

They were keen on showing me their region - I did some nice activities with Sam - and introducing me to good NZ movies.

I miss all of them - humans and animals - a LOT since I left. I stayed there for about a month and it was one of these very few extremely precious experiences that when the end comes, you know what comes next won't come close. If you end up being one of their next volunteers, please tell the animals Mélanie misses them and love them deeply, and enjoy your time there with all your being!

Special thanks to Siggy for breaking Sam's leg, as they wouldn't have needed a volunteer at that time without the accident (I'm joking of course, I'm not happy about Sam being injured!) and a special sweet thought goes to John, one of the roosters who decided to go experience life in another universe while I was there. Rest in peace little buddy, I will always remember you!

I not only found an amazing place to volunteer at when joining this well-being center, but I also got to experience a sense of home, safety and family for the first time in my life. So saying it went incredibly well is an understatement.

I was the first volunteer there and I got to basically do everything related to volunteers: choosing who… read more would join us for the coming months, make the rules and organisation, be in charge of various tasks, be the key person between them, the management and the residents, etc. I really enjoyed all the responsibilities and the trust I got from the manager and everyone living there, from my first day to the last one. I also got to help during events, design posters and flyers, create a bit of content, be involved in the Kombucha activity, etc. Many nice things to be a part of!

The current residents and members of the staff are very nice, to say the least. I've grown immensely during my 3 months and a half there thanks to their love and support. I won't say much more here, they know it all already. We’ve laughed, talked, worked, ate, cooked, cried, danced, hugged, walked, sang, and much more, and I’ve loved every second of it. From a dip into the frozen sea late at night, to our observatory sessions looking at the wildlife in the garden and warm goodbyes in the parking lot (and even at the airport), and everything in-between. I'm grateful for the very unique moments and the super common ones too.

Getting to take part in many events and classes was an absolute gift and also helped a lot with my personal growth and is also a huge part of why I've had such a great experience there all together.

I've learned a lot about various topics, and Finnish culture. The area (Tammisaari) is lovely, the animals outside are super cute, and I've really enjoyed my walks along the sea everyday. And there's no words to describe how much I fell in love with Finland, Finnish people and their way of life ♥

I now have more skills, a better self-esteem, more self-confidence, and a ton of wonderful memories to look back at and make me smile. And also incredible people in my heart.

I would have stayed longer if I didn't have other plans already booked, but who knows... I can always go back in the future! It has been one of the most wonderful experiences of my life!
Now I may be far, but I hold you close. You're a part of me forever!
