Hi, nice to meet you!

I’m Mikolaj from Warsaw, Poland, and I’m 35. For the last few years I have worked as a Project Manager in an IT sector, I’ve decided to take a sabbatical. I realized I need a lifestyle that feels more grounded, meaningful, and aligned with nature.

I’m a friendly and open-minded person, who enjoys community living, and team collaboration. My years in project management taught me how to listen, support others, solve problems and make quick decisions when needed. I’d love the opportunity to exchange experiences and learn from you.

My core values are integrity, curiosity, and connecting with people.

In person I’m keen on outdoor activities like hiking, climbing, and camping. I also love sports and reading. I believe that the essence of humanity lies in continuous change, which is exactly what led me here. I’m curious, eager to try new things, and I feel that Workaway is a perfect way to learn, contribute, connect and also to experience and better understand everyday life from a different perspective.

One of my main goals during my Workaway journey is to reach full fluency in English through daily immersion. I’m also a native Polish speaker and would be more than happy to help anyone interested in learning my language. Beyond that, I’m always open to picking up the basics of the local language wherever I stay!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Coming from a Project Management background, I combine a highly organized "can-do" attitude with a genuine love for physical work and the outdoors. Here’s what I can bring:

🛠 Physical Work & Maintenance
I’m in good physical shape and I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty.
- Manual labor: I’m experienced with basic tools - I can paint, clean, and I’m happy to work with a shovel or do garden maintenance.
- Outdoor endurance: I’m an experienced hiker and climber (6b French scale). I’ve completed long-distance trails like the HRP in the Pyrenees (250km+ with a tent), so I’m used to hard work in various weather conditions.

🍱 Cooking & Household
- In the kitchen: I'm quite good at cooking. I can follow any recipe, but my specialty is Italian pasta (which I can make from scratch/without a recipe).
- Tidiness: I’m naturally organized and I take pride in keeping shared spaces clean and functional.

💻 Tech & Digital
- IT & electronics: With a career in IT, I can help with systems, hardware, or troubleshooting.
- Drone pilot: I can fly a drone and take high-quality photos/videos – which could be great for documenting your project or property!
- Driving: I have a full Category B driving license.

🗣 People & Teaching
- Teaching & workshops: My true passion is education. I love sharing knowledge and I’m highly experienced in public speaking as a Toastmaster’s club member, and leading team workshops.
- Project planning: If you have a complex project, I can help you organize it, set priorities, and keep the plan up-to-date.

🌱 Mindset & Well-being
Since 2025, I have been practicing yoga and meditation regularly. While this is a personal practice, it helps me stay calm, focused, and positive. I believe in contributing good energy to every community I join.

I’m an active person and exercise regularly to stay fit and healthy. I truly fell in love with the mountains while hiking.
In my homeplace, I’m a bit of a collector. I love vinyl records (from classical music and jazz to electronic and old-school rock) and books. One of my favourites is Sting's "The dream of blue turtles" which I dug out from the crate for a song :) Also love playing board games e.g. Catan - I'm always down for a match! :)

I’ve been a member of Toastmasters for several years. It’s where I practice public speaking and storytelling. I’m a firm believer in personal development and I love sharing meaningful conversations with people from all walks of life.

I love animals.
I grew up in a house that was also a dog kennel - my mother bred Dogo Argentinos and Bouviers, so I’ve been around large dogs since I was a kid. I also have a cat (who is currently being pampered by my grandma while I’m away). I’m very comfortable around pets and happy to help with them.
