  • Description

    Hello,

I'm José, a photographer living in Berlin and I will be travelling to Colombia for 3 months from late December and on words.

I'm from Colombia, but was adopted at a very early age to Denmark, where I grew up and spent the first 29 years of my life, before moving to Berlin in 2020.

Berlin became a new start, an opportunity to try something new in my life. And as Berlin always have been a city I liked and travelled too, due to the level of creativity, diversity, and its multicultural side - it seemed like the place for me to settle down.

Living here has opened my eyes to a lot of things and especially realising how I've always stood out in the very white and conservative country, that Denmark is. I've for the first time met other Colombians and connected with them, learned things about my country and culture that I've been wanting for long and which have led me to finally starting to embrace my culture and heritage to best of my knowledge and power.

I was so lucky to spend 10 days in Mexico this spring, which was the first time in my life that I felt like a part of somewhere, someone. It was a very special experience and it gave me the last push to now wanting to go back to Colombia.

So now is finally the time for me to go back home. To Colombia and my people. It's been something I've been wanting to do for long, but somehow the time haven't been right before now and the hole, the big missing part inside regarding that, needs to filled and found.

It's hard for me to describe how excited I am for this journey, not only as a travel and all the beautiful things and people I will met on my way - but also the internal journey that it will be.

I'm equally scared and excited, but I can't wait for it to begin and through WorkAway I hope to find some amazing people and communities that can and want to show me the country, their home, their families and nature. Show me their culture and way of living - and I promise you I will be returning my gratitude with an open heart, a big will to learn/understand and hard work.

My cameras are an extension of me and have been a great way for me to meet new people, interact and try to tell their story within a photo and this journey will be a big part of that too, as I'm hoping to be able to document and tell the stories I hear on my way in a respectful and pure manner, for other people to hear when I get back.

I'm a spiritual persons and believe that there's a meaning with everything in this life. Psychedelics have helped me reach states and see things, not possible without - as why they are a part of my life.
I believe and respect their powers a lot at knows that they are not for everyone.

Don't hesitate to reach out if you want to show me your home, family, culture and land. Our land, Colombia. I want to hear and see it in its purest and most honest form, so if you have a story you want told, I'd love to do it.

Lasty... No one is free until everyone is free! Free Palestine

End Western imperialism, colonialism and racism.

Thank you for your time and for those interested, you can see some of my work here:

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I have wide variety of skills that I've learned over the last 10 years working a range of different jobs and taking on several hobbies a long the way.

My main skills are within photography, analog primarily but know my way around a digital camera too. I'm self-taught and after starting from scratch, 4 years ago - I'm now able to work cameras, light and spaces, photoshop/lightroom, in a darkroom and as well as book binding.
I also work with video and editing as a part of my practice and often use both still and video to bind a project together and have both medias.

Apart from doing photography I also work at a restaurant. It's a little bistro with simple. yet tasty food made from local and good produce here in Berlin. I work as a waiter, which I hav done for many years and have some knowledge within wine and drinks too. Most importantly for me though is the environment I work in and what I can contribute to that, which always is a good mood, easy to be around, smile and a shoulder to lean on if you're having a bad day or a hug. For me, no work place will ever work if we're not all on the same team - even in stressfull situations or on bad days I try my best to make it better and make sure people around me are okay. We win and loose together. Mostly win.

Before I moved to Berlin I was working as a kindergarten teacher (age 5-6) for 3 years, before also helping out as an assistant teacher for 2 years, supporting a boy (age 9) with autism, in his daily life in the school. Both parts of the job was extremely giving and I like to be around kids, so I can also help with that.

Lastly I would just say that I'm generally a fast learner, easy adapting and hard worker. I've tried a lot of different jobs other than the ones listed here, as I've always been wanting to learn something new and try out new stuff. I've been doing sports most of my life and train weekly still to keep fit, which also gives me a good base and strength to do harder work if needed.

I'm very interested in medicinal plants and have spend a lot of time learning about especially psylocibin mushrooms, which I've also used and still does for myself. In general the expansion of our minds through psychedelic plants is very fascinating to me and something I'm keen to learn more about as well.

So feel free to contact me if you need hands with any of above or something different as well, I'm up for it!
