Hello! My name is Madeleine. I am a 26 year old multi-disciplinary artist and singer. I was born and raised in Manitoba, a prairie province in Canada.

I lived in New Zealand for 4 years, from 2020-2023, where I performed in two bands, worked as a nanny & landscaper, had a few Workaway experiences, and traveled around the country living in a van for a year. I also lived in a caravan for a few months, did some beautiful hikes, and immersed myself in writing and musical communities.

Most of the work I have done is in childcare. I have 5 years of experience as a nanny, working with children aged 6 months - 14 years, and I spent 2 years working in daycare centres in Canada. I currently work as a nanny in Canada.

I am quick to familiarize myself with family dynamics and am a very independent, patient, and outgoing person.

I enjoy cooking and baking, caring for people and animals, making art, hiking, reading, and working with my hands.

I have stained a few decks, painted a few fences, and worked as a landscaper in several climates. I am eager to learn new skills, i.e. construction, pottery, horse care, organic farming, renovation, restoration, whatever there is to learn.

I have plenty of cat & dog sitting experience, and would really like to learn how to care for horses; I have some riding experience from childhood but it's minimal.

I lived with the Hansens for 6 months, which should be informant of how welcomed I felt! They took me in without knowing me literally at all, and welcomed me to live with them through the Covid19 lockdown.

Marmaduke is one of the most clever and quick-tongued people, of any age, you will ever meet; he truly emobodies the Kiwi sense of humour, with a vocabulary chock full of slang you will only hear in NZ. We became close friends almost immediately and I'll cherish that! Jas is a total sweetheart and loved working in the kitchen with me, as well as helping with Leonardo, only a wee little toddler but with an incredibly acute sense of humour and stunning abilities beyond his years. I have worked with children for about 4 years and these ones will stand out to me forever as pleasant, kind-hearted and just wonderful, sweet kids. :)

Dave and Michelle are not always the most traditional folks around, and its awesome! The best thing I found here vs other jobs / work trades / living situations is that they are both constantly reevaluating systems and looking at how to make things work better. There was conversation about changing schedules pretty consistently in my time there, as we moved with the changing world! The main jobs I had were laundry, cooking a hot lunch, prepping / making platters for dinner, grocery shopping, taking the kids for long walks, homeschooling, bringing in firewood and starting / keeping fires, vacuuming, cleaning the bathroom and keeping the house clean in general. Overall I feel the work was absolutely fair for the GORGEOUS space I lived in and the great meals we all shared together!! I did not ever feel forced to spend additional time with the family if I wanted or needed alone time, they were very respectful of my introverted and introspective nature and never pressured me to do things I didn't want to do. Tho we did have some really fun outings together, and there was consistently a good balance of feeling invited & knowing I could have my own space / let them have their family time.

So many deep conversations took place in the kitchen with Michelle, and she is an incredibly smart and driven woman, ready to lend a hand wherever it is needed. Dave loves to share skills, knowledge, and C4 coffee straight from his fancy coffee machine ;) I could go on forever and ever about what they taught and provided for me in the long stretch spent with them. They're lovely and generous people, and anyone who is committed to children and is a generally social and polite person could get on well here. PS oamaru is not all that boring if you get out there and experience it!

Staying with Robin was really amazing. The ‘work’ is mainly companionship which is no work at all, since Robin is a really intelligent and quick conversationalist. It has been a pleasure to have Madeleine staying with me for the past 3 weeks.

She is a very enjoyable girl with a great personality, and a pleasure to have around.

Madeleine has helped me with various tasks and also kept me company. We have had great conversations and got along really well.

Maddy has been a pleasure to have here. Working with her is easy and comfortable. The communication is excellent. She has been up to every and all tasks. My new dog wants her to stay..We will miss her smoothies and banana ice cream..
