Lindsay:
Many things bring me happiness and motivation, and those things have altered and changed as I have gotten older. Thrilling conversations about animals (especially, I adore the natural world - I am a former canine rescue worker and animal keeper, so I am deeply passionate about animal welfare, conservation and education), culture and well-being, really bring me joy and enhance my motivation to listen and learn more about the people I meet. Not only do I love these topics, I love chatting with people and finding out more about what makes them tick. I have learned over time, that you can still create and sustain thriving connections with people, even though your opinions may differ.
On the flip side, spending time in a peaceful, quiet spot by myself, to read, meditate, or simply take in my environment, truly brings me joy. Being present and grounding myself, are habits that I am working to instil in myself, to improve mental health and get the most out of our travel experiences.
I love those contrasting moments in life, and I'm learning to appreciate them both in different ways.
Happiness and motivation also, for me, comes from my family, friends, our foster dogs, photography, books, music and a really good chocolate bar!
Rhys:
I love travelling for the opportunities it brings to see the world and as much of its wildlife as I can, whilst learning about humans and other species co-exist. I work as a zookeeper back home and seeing wild and new species helps reinforce the work that we do, and allows me to take knowledge back to improve our practices. Any chance to talk about animals or the natural world with people and discover their perspectives on such matters is a matter of great interest and passion, and learning about the journeys that others are on is always amazing. Few things are better than talking into the small hours of night about life and personal philosophy.
In my spare time, I enjoy reading, playing board and card games, studying matters to do with wildlife, exercising with calisthenics and sightseeing. Food is a huge part of my travel experience as well, from home cooked meals with hosts to fancy restaurants to food carts on the street, it's all appreciated and enjoyed! I love to laugh and don't take myself or many things too seriously (unless appropriate) and always look to crack jokes and enjoy time with people.Centres d’intérêt

Lindsay:
I'm very conscientious and have a tremendous work ethic. Working in both domestic (elderly / acquired brain injury care) and animal care environments, my cleaning skills are well developed and of a high standard. I can use various tools and equipment including, leaf blowers, strimmers, steam cleaners and hand tools. I also hold a full driving license, and have experience driving large vehicles (with or without trailers).
I am a social person with a high sense of empathy. I listen to others and communicate very well, be that verbally or in writing.
I'm a very keen writer and have orchestrated animal talks and presentations for school groups and members of the public, when working in educational roles.
We love learning and carrying out tasks with gusto, ensuring they are completed to the best of our combined abilities. We catch on quickly, use initiative, but always communicate with our hosts so we are clear on their wants and needs for a task/project.
We're both very good time keepers and are used to working in all weathers, so if you need us to start bright and early, rain or shine, we'll be there!
We are currently on a permaculture site in an eco village, carrying out cleaning, building, macrame and housekeeping tasks.
Rhys:
Skills from animal care are varied, including animal husbandry and training, general maintenance and upkeep, gardening, administrative skills including computer work and paperwork, cleaning, and teaching and public speaking. From work and previous volunteer projects I've also worked extensively with volunteers and colleagues in a supervisory position and also as an equal colleague. I have a full drivers license and frequently drove tractors, trailers and a small digger at work.Âge

Feedback
We felt super comfortable from the get go, and even got to meet other Workaways.
The Chapel is an animal lovers dream, lots of doggo and cat cuddles!
We'd highly recommend Ruth and Mark as hosts, great people 👍
They would be welcome back at any time and I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending them to any host.
Vicki is a fantastic host and super chill lady. We had a great time working with her, sharing meals (she's a fab cook!) and great conversations.
The jobs we did were fun and rewarding, but had lots of time to relax and explore the local area.
We'd highly recommended Vicki as a host to anyone.
We were very impressed at how happily they worked together and completed their tasks.
We had a lot of laughs. I would really recommend them to any hosts!
Ruth is a fabulous lady. She fed us so well, lent us a car and gave great recommendations of things to see and do in Tassie.
The work we did was simple but rewarding; weeding, organising, pruning and a cheeky bit of brick laying… read more

Our work was varied and we were always kept busy. Rhys did a lot of work out in the paddocks with Ross; fixing fences, caring for the cattle and chopping (fallen or dead) trees for firewood. My tasks included garden maintenance, fruit picking, juicing… read more
They were so generous and kind, with great senses of humour. They provided us with everything we needed and then some.
Our project work was interesting, allowed us to learn new skills and build on those we already had.
