Description
Hi my name is John, I have recently retired and looking to visit new places and meet new people. I have three children who have now all left home.
I like to help people who need a hand with some DIY, I am pretty good at up-cycling and happy to repair things that need fixing - but happy to do anything that needs to be done inside or outside.
I like to cycle, swim and walk and I haved coached at my local swimming and rugby club.

I trained as a ship engineer, starting as a draughtsman in my early career and finished as a senior technical analyst working closely with the Royal Navy.
I like to work with other people to solve problems and ensure a job gets completed on time an in budget.
Outside of work I like to complete projects inside or outside and often help others in DIY projects.

Joan hosted me for two weeks during which she asked me to make plant boxes, put up shelves, repair two chairs & a table, cut up scrap metal for recycling, sweep a chimney and cut wood ready for winter.
Joan made me feel very welcome during my stay and introduced me to both the local area and to her family and friends who visited during my stay.

I had the help of John for nearly two weeks and he has done a lot : fixing chairs and table, building some shelves and plant boxes, cutting and spliting some firewoods etc...
all that with a lot of skill et "bonne humeur" .

I stayed with Heike for two weeks at her smallholding in Bedarieux doing a variety of jobs for her, I also helped her at her town house in Portiragnes which is near the Mediterranean coast. John was with me for 2 weeks to help. He is extremely hardworking, imaginative and flexible. He helped tear down a hut, redecorated the guest room, repaired and tidied up a few things and he helped me by the sea. I have enough firewood now ;-). He loves constructing things. John is a very competent fellow with a strong work ethic. He has many practical skills and was a huge help with sanding, painting and general maintenance. During his visit, we achieved some pretty big projects. A couple of jobs were so big, I would not have attempted them without his help.

Peter was an excellent host, the work involved sanding paintwork and repainting the deck of his barge. Peter also introduced me to his local friends in the village who were all extremely welcoming. Overall the time spent with Peter was extremely satisfying.

(Help with DIY in a house in ...)
Dominique has been renovating his farmhouse that he inherited from his patents for two years so all of the work was painting, stripping old wallpaper or helping out in the garden. It was a thoroughly rewarding experience greatly enhanced by Dominique's culinary skills and meals that he prepared every day.
