I'm currently living in North Sumatra Indonesia, but I'll be leaving soon after a year and a half and travelling a little through Java and the region around Bali before heading to New Zealand in Sept.
Description
Hey I am Jesse :)
I've been living in North Sumatra, Indonesia, for the past year and a half working as a manager at an NGO called the Bukit Lawang Trust (bukitlawangtrust.org). I am the Head of Volunteering and I also manage our Eco Farming Programme. It's been a wonderful experience, enriching, exciting and full of amazing challenges, but I have been away from home for over two years and it's time to head back for a while. But not before a little more travelling and volunteering!
It's always been my dream to visit New Zealand and I would love to find some interesting volunteering experiences there as I believe it's one of the best ways to travel.
I have loads of experience both volunteering and working with volunteers, of course in my current role as Head of Volunteering at the BLT, but also, prior to working in Indonesia, I spent over a year travelling and for the majority of that time I was volunteering through Workaway. I've done all sorts of things from teaching in Nepal to windsurf instructing in Croatia to working in off-gird communities in various parts of Europe.
Before leaving the UK I was also working in the charity sector, for two very different charities but both working with immigrants, asylum seekers and refugees in some capacity.
I love the outdoors and I'm passionate about our environment and protecting it. I love outdoor activities too, exploring, hiking and climbing. I'm a serious nerd and very into all things fantasy, whether it's books, films, TV or games. Cooking is a passion of mine, it relaxes me and I enjoy experimenting in the kitchen. I like to keep active whenever possible, dancing, playing sports, or cycling.
I've got a lot of interest and happy to try new things and work in a variety of settings. I enjoy working with new people and I'm very open to new experiences and challenges. I am communicative, hard working and independent.
