Hello my name is Jaap from the Netherlands. In 2020 and 2021 I did some Workaways which I enjoyed very much. I liked putting my skills to use and connect with the hosts. The location, social and cultural aspect makes helping so much more fun. It is in my nature to help and sometimes it is also good to ask for help. So I have learned the hard way.

After I came back from my trip in Sweden in 2022 I started renovating a house where I was going to live. Since there was a deadline, and I thought it was a good idea to do most of it alone, I completely lost myself in the process and ended up with a burn-out. To make matters worse I also have Long Covid symptoms. Going from a super active life to absolute zero has been very hard and a challenge.

Now two years later I feel the worse has passed but it is fragile. I can do stuff, be social, help people but only for so much. Some days are better than others but I have learned that I am not superman anymore and have to manage my energy. So I want to get back out there. I believe sitting at home, and get rest all this time, has taken me to a certain point of recovery. However being in a nice enviroment with nice people is going to help me get to the next level. Regain some confidence, knowing I can still contribute and in the meantime be in a nice setting/ environment.

I understand not all hosts are waiting for 'damaged goods' and want a decent amount of labour for the stay and food on the table. My selection will be made on what I think can manage of course. Since I am traveling in my campervan it is easy to move around. So if things don't work out no hard feelings. But to give myself some credit; the skills and motivation are still there. I am the same guy from the reviews but a lot more careful with myself.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I worked a desk job for many years so I have organizational skills and an expert at sitting for a long time.

As a teenager I worked a lot in the agriculture with flower bulbs. Labour intensive. In my early 20’s I managed a non food store and helped starting new stores around the country.

I did a lot of house renovations. I am an excellent painter, know my way around with wood and the power tools. Odd jobs, cutting and splitting firewood.

I build a campervan by myself.

I Would say I am a hands on and pragmatic type of person. I like to be creative and use whatever is available. Fixing things, decorating and organizing. When I see something that needs te be done I just do it. I am very independent, diligent and a fast learner.
