I'm Will, I'm from London and lived in Birmingham for 4 years as a student. I'm currently taking a year to travel after finishing university. I studied French until I was 17, so I'd love to spend some of my time this year improving my French language skills beyond the intermediate level I'm currently at. Would be more than happy to find a language buddy or exchange work for language practice/immersion. I studied engineering and have experience working as a handyman/gardener to make money while at university, so this may be of use.
Otherwise about me, I'm fun, quite extroverted, love to meet new people and love music. I love a good adventure and am not afraid to take risks. I'm hoping I can find someone/somewhere I can improve my French skills with, and enjoy all the experiences that come with it!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
I'm a civil engineer, so have good appreciation for theory behind construction, but equally have always enjoyed being involved with DIY projects. I have worked as a labourer/handyman self-employed as summer work before, having plenty of experience in working for and alongside customers in many areas from vegetation clearance to basic construction to house removals. I am physically able and more than happy doing physical work, and I typically pick up new skills quickly and am very keen to learn as much as I can - I'm not afraid to challenge myself and try something new!
As much as I can put these skills to work, my main aim at the moment is to improve my French language skills and so am looking for opportunities where I can be in French language immersion.

I feel so incredibly lucky to have had the chance to stay here, meet these lovely people and learn as much as I did, and feel so supported doing so. I came here to improve my French, and spoke exclusively in French. Catherine especially was so… read more supportive with my learning, and I learnt a huge amount during my stay, genuinely feeling a huge amount of progress from week to week. I’d brought a book in French with me, and Catherine was always happy (and possibly even enjoyed) either reading this to me or having me read it aloud to her – something I learnt lots from.
I really felt like a member of their family, and felt so well integrated into family life. I really appreciated the visits we went on together, and the freedom to borrow their bikes and cycle in the beautiful rolling hills of the surrounding countryside with the other Workawayer staying there (Florian – who is a legend in his own right).
If you are positive, love to learn, and warm-hearted I couldn’t recommend this Workaway highly enough to you – you’ll have the best time, I know I did. Thank you so much Catherine, Laurent and family for teaching me so much, for looking after me like one of your own, and for giving me the most wonderful memories that will last a lifetime. I’ll definitely see you all again one day soon.

Il est presque impossible de trouver des mots assez forts pour exprimer ma reconnaissance d’avoir eu la chance de passer un mois chez Catherine, Laurent et leur famille. J’ai été accueilli comme si je faisais partie de la famille - avec beaucoup de chaleur. C’était très facile de m’intégrer dans la vie quotidienne, qui était toujours pleine d’activités, discussions intéressantes et de rires (en particulier à cause de ma coupe de cheveux ??) Il était clair aussi que toute la famille aime apprendre – quelque chose que j’aime beaucoup aussi. C’était idéal parce que j’y suis allé pour mieux apprendre le français. J’ai beaucoup appris et beaucoup amélioré ma maîtrise de la langue grâce a l’aide de Catherine en particulier ; j’y ai apporté un livre en français et Catherine m’a beaucoup aidé à améliorer ma prononciation et mon vocabulaire en corrigeant ce que je lisais à voix haut.
Grâce à eux, j’ai même eu l’occasion de faire des visites avec la famille dans d’autres villes intéressantes de la région, de rendre visite à leurs grands-parents, et faire du vélo à la campagne tranquille avec l’autre Workawayer qui séjournait chez eux.
Je dirais sans hésitation que le mois que j’ai passé ici est l’un des meilleurs de tous mes mois de voyages. J’ai déjà hâte de revenir !
