Description

My name is Evyatar and I live with my partner Kai in New York City. I graduated from NYU film school, and Kai is in college, works as an EMT and hopes to become a paramedic. We both took a gap year before starting college to travel and volunteer. I did it to learn as much as possible about different cultures and the world around me, and lived in the Dominican Republic for three months volunteering as a teacher at a non-profit school. I taught English, music, arts & crafts, and even learned Dominican Sign-Language to work at a deaf school. After that I spent some time backpacking in the Andes with some close friends, and then went on tour with a professional choir in Britain, France, and Spain where I sang folk music such as traditional polyphony from places like Georgia, Corsica, South Africa, the Balkans, and America. We toured for two months taught workshops for local community choirs and performed in small towns and villages. I then traveled across Europe making videos and documentaries of the things I encountered and ended my trip with a few weeks working on a farm in the Netherlands through WWOOF.

Kai did an Emergency Medical Service training on her gap year and worked on a helicopter to search and rescue stranded climbers. She also travelled across the country with a program building tiny houses and collecting information about tiny house communities in order to pass the idea of a tiny house community in her home state of Vermont. She's also volunteered in schools in Ghana. Back home she works as a leader in Uprise, a grassroots center and organization that focuses on social justice issues that revolve around climate change. She is a leader, organizer, and vocal activist at heart. There's so much to say about her, but I guess its best to ask her about it yourself!

I feel it's time for us again to get down and dirty with some work while we have the chance! We hope to spend some weeks this summer working hard and getting sunlight. In that time we would be happy taking on any kind of job you can offer us. We have experience farming, teaching, and filmmaking, but are ready for any challenge and to learn any new skill that is necessary. My partner and I are traveling together, and she has even more experience farming than me (having grown up on a sustainable farm her whole life). We are also both good cooks and love to make food if that is also needed. Please let me know if you would like us to join you and help on the farm, homestead, or elsewhere! It would be a very exciting learning and working experience for both of us!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Kai and I have a variety of skills as related to farm work and otherwise. We both know the basics of weeding, planting, and overall plant nursing. My experience is limited to starting a food forest and working to protect it from wildlife as it grew. Kai grew up on a sustainable farm and is very knowledgable and savvy in the agricultural field (no pun intended). She knows everything from the mycology of compost piles to operating and repairing heavy machinery on a farm. She has worked with her father over the years to institute more and more eco-systems and practices in order to bring her family's farm to full self-sustainability. My expertise lies in a very different area. I am a professional videographer and cinematographer. I have studied for 4 years at NYU Tisch school of the arts, the best film school in the world, and have honed my skills as a film director and cinematographer. I love creating documentaries, as well as other passion projects like short films and music videos, but I make most of my living working on commercials.
