Description

Hello! I'm Emrys, a friendly Aussie globetrotter シ︎

I'm an experienced online English tutor, light painter photographer, and novice software developer. I'm travelling to collect moments, learn from other cultures and people, and contribute as much as possible. I joined Workaway because it would give me the most unique and fulfilling experiences!

So far, along my five-year journey abroad, I've explored most of Europe, Southeast Asia, and parts of the Middle East. I've been lucky enough to live in Sweden, Germany, and Türkiye for over a year! I have learned much about the cultures, language, and way of life during this time, and I feel blessed for the adventures and friendships I found along the way!

I will travel to Brazil in January, a country which has always captivated my curiosity. I'm looking for a host who shares a passion for their locale and can benefit from my unique blend of skills. Whether collaborating on local projects, exchanging cultural insights, or simply sharing stories over a cup of mate, I'm ready to contribute and learn equally.

I absolutely love volunteering in hostels and guesthouses alike! I have volunteered at four hostels, including the Captain Cook Hostel in Sydney, Buffalo Backpackers in Prishtina, Hostel Ramallah in Palestine, and Friends Hostel in Bucharest. I've done everything from greeting and checking in/out guests to handling general housekeeping, whipping up morning/evening meals, promoting and hosting activities, and running rooftop bars!

Ever since I was a child, I have been passionate about cooking. I can cook many cuisines, including Indian, Asian, Italian, Mexican, and vegetarian/vegan dishes. I also worked at John Bull Pub & Restaurant in Lund, Sweden, as a part-time chef for a few months. Teach me your favourite recipe, and I'll be your friend for life!

I love teaching English! I'm a qualified TEFL (Teach English as a Foreign Language) teacher with a high level of knowledge of the English language. I have helped over 350 students with over 1200 lessons on Cambly and have received 99% positive feedback! I am pleased to help anyone who wants to improve their verbal and written English skills.

I love portrait and light painting photography! I specialise in steel wool photography, fibre optic portraits, and tube light painting. Cleaning isn't my favourite thing, but I'm super good at it! I ran my own car-washing business at the age of 12! I also worked as a professional residential cleaner in Australia for six months. And, of course, I have loads of experience in housekeeping at the hostels mentioned above. So, if something needs cleaning, I'm your guy!

I love being outside building things and the satisfaction it gives you! I've participated in many building and gardening projects over the years. I can assist with bricklaying, carpentry, landscaping, painting, and really anything building and gardening-related.

My main passions are cooking, photography, writing, science, nature, and travel. I enjoy keeping up with scientific discoveries, especially anything related to AI, astrology, and physics. I enjoy living in highly sociable communal atmospheres. I'm a minimalist, only keeping possessions that add value to my life.

I'm a friendly, upbeat adventure seeker! I pride myself on my overly optimistic, relaxed demeanour. There is always a silver lining to every cloud! What I value most are my friendships and the unbelievable experiences we've shared. Happiness and satisfaction are easy to find if you look in the right places!
