Description
We’re Ellen and Carver, a dynamic couple of 27 year olds who became friends in high school and started dating just over 2 years ago. We are now embarking on an exciting year-long adventure through Central and South America that started in November 2024. We’re excited to explore new cultures, learn new skills, and explore the beauty of our planet.
We were both born and raised in Oregon, where the lush forests, raging rivers, and vibrant green landscapes shaped our love for the outdoors. Whether it’s hiking, backpacking, biking, surfing, kiteboarding, swimming, or just simply walking down the sidewalk, we’re stoked to be outside and enjoying the world.
Ellen’s world revolves around art. She is always imagining new art projects to create or sewing garments from up-cycled materials. She loves expressing her inner world through creation and helping others to do the same. Meeting new people, trying new things, soaking up sun, and dancing bring Ellen happiness. She loves to get out of her comfort zone.
Carver's world revolves around science and athletics. He is fascinated by how the Earth works and loves to study the hydrologic system that we rely on. When he is not reading or learning about the natural world, he is probably playing soccer, surfing, or riding his bike. Carver also loves wildlife and is a big fan of observing animals in their natural habitats.
We are both very open, love meeting new people and making new friends!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
Ellen pursued a degree in kinesiology (the study of body movement) at university in Hawai’i, where her fascination with the human body and her curiosity for learning flourished. Since graduating, she’s been working as a waitress in Washington state. Ellen is also a self-taught seamstress, running her own eco-friendly business creating clothing from up-cycled materials. She also works as a freelance graphic designer and designs stickers that she sells at various stores around the Pacific Northwest. Her creativity and attention to detail are evident in her work. Ellen has done a bit of carpentry and would love to learn more. She has grown her own garden in Washington, Oregon, and Hawai'i and has worked clearing land as well. She loves getting sweaty with manual labor and can do any digging, chopping, or building that is needed. Ellen has been honing her Spanish through annual trips to Mexico. She’s been studying the language for over a decade and is passionate about practicing as much as possible during this year of travel.
Carver studied geography at university in Montana and went on to get his master’s degree in the same field. His academic pursuits have been driven by his lifelong fascination with maps and places. After graduating from university, he worked in the field of ecological restoration, where he helped design projects aimed at improving local water quality and riparian habitat. He also has extensive experience gardening and growing his own food. Carver has worked countless manual labor jobs. He is comfortable working with his hands and has completed many carpentry tasks such as building shelves, beds, and cabinets. After graduating, he worked as a cartographer for the University of Montana, mapping wetlands across the American West. He hopes to expand upon his geographic expertise while exploring and learning about Central and South America. Carver is a Spanish novice and has recently started learning the language. However, he is eager to improve his skills through his travels. He is also mechanically savvy and enjoys working on his bicycles and car.
At our last WorkAway in Guatemala, we constructed a 3,000 L water tank out of cement with the guidance of a few local workers. Ellen also helped design a mirror frame and we both applied epoxy to the designs, later sanding and varnishing it.
Both Ellen and Carver are quick learners, love a challenge, and have high attention to detail.
