Description
Hi there, my name is Dino and I come from the Netherlands. I love volunteering and I have volunteered at about 30 farms and schools in Southeast Asia and Australia through Workaway and WWOOF. During my travels, my priorities are:
1) becoming a better teacher/farmer
2) making a significant contribution to a project
3) learn from different cultures and walks of life
I am healthy, fit and don't mind dirty jobs or longer hours. I love to work together on new ideas and I happily use my creativity to take initiative for new projects.

A little bit about my credentials. I passed the Cambridge C2 exam with an A grade. I also obtained the Cambridge CELTA teaching certificate which I used to teach refugees in the Netherlands. I also have experience in several Workaway projects in teaching English, from kindergarten children up to adults. I also have basic Indonesian language skills. Considering farm work, I have work experience in the Netherlands, Australia and Asia. I am most passionate about orchard farms and fruit farms. Several years ago I passed a Permaculture Design Course and a course on food forests. I am fascinated by agriculture's potential to heal the earth and people.

My hobbies include photography, movies, working out, yoga, poetry and honest conversations. I don't need any luxuries but you can make me very happy with a good coffee and fresh fruits.

There are so many amazing projects on WorkAway, I hope I can make a contribution to some of them. I can't wait to meet you!

I would love to learn more Indonesian. I have already finished two Indonesian courses (A1/A2) and want to become fully proficient eventually. And I want to teach English. I am a certified English teacher (Cambridge CELTA). I also completed several online courses on grammar, teaching speaking, teaching pronunciation and remote teaching. I have also obtained the Cambridge Proficiency C2 certificate (grade A) so I have some experience with preparing for Cambridge exams and the use of the CEFR (Common European Framework).

My main skills are in gardening and farming and I also like to write articles about farming. I also have basic skills in graphic software (Autocad, Illustrator, Indesign, Photoshop, Skethup) . My English speaking and writing skills are good. I am fit and able to work hard. I don't mind to work longer hours if it is needed.

I enjoy photography and I always love to go somewhere to take pictures of landscapes, buildings or people.

Since there were enough volunteers at some of the other temples, I was allowed to stay in a temple in Minuwangoda. Dino does not come to play, he comes to work already. Prior to his arrival, Dino already shared his initiatives of some programs that he might be doing and engaged in a discussion with our staff members. During his volunteering time with us, he's done plenty of amazing activities that brings new experience, knowledge, and perspective to our… read more beneficiaries. We really appreciate some of the great (we might say leadership) characters in him such as work standard, initiating action, and impact. Here are some of the proof:
Work Standard:
-he managed to plan and deliver 5 (and more) English writing series sessions and 5 (and more) English speaking series sessions. He prepared his session plan first and brainstorm with us to get better ideas. He values our feedback and listen carefully so that it will improve his sessions.
-When he has ideas, he makes that happen. He initiated three (and probably more) programs such as Global team player (session about bringing global awareness), Bicycle Day for kids, Forest Adventure. It is safe to say, all the three are done with amazing impacts on our beneficiaries (youth, kids, and officers)

Initiating Action:
-As mentioned before, Dino initiated three new programs which are Global team player delivered in three sessions talking about stereotypes, teamwork, and inclusivity. Secondly, Bicycle Day which allows kids to learn about good habit of Dutch people (being active while doing cycling) and to compete in some games involving cycling activities which make the kids having fun and learn some good habit. Thirdly, Forest Adventure Day that gives opportunity for kids to learn from nature and in the future could protect it.
-Dino always initiates discussion, approaches people first, comes with an open mind that make every minute comfortable and well-spent.

Impact
-Whenever Dino is about to deliver an English session, he always prepares one or even two days before that reminds us a good preparation is half way to success/running the program smoothly.
-Whenever you have discussion with Dino, he always does active listening. He never interrupts, shows his eye contact, and writes important points. It feels at ease working with him.
-Dino is approachable. He doesn't show that he is foreign or different or speak better English, he just joins you at lunch, asking to get a coffee together, sharing his interest in music or any other subjects, or even just asking some questions to get to know you better.

At the end it is an honor to have Dino learn and spend time with us here. So glad to welcome here and know him from Workaway. Thank you for touching people's life. Hope to see and work again with Dino. Good luck with your journey ahead!

Had a good time in Janda Baik. There were a lot of different things to do on the farm.
