Hi all!

I'm Dara, 31 years old and from the UK. To be more specific, my parents are Irish and Scottish and I’ve lived all over the UK and also in Spain. This mix is part of the reason why I like to be on the move and why I want to take part in a Workaway experience!

I’m now a veteran of two Workaway projects and eager to try more—especially in hostels, which I’m really excited to experience for the first time! I love the social atmosphere, the variety of tasks, and the chance to meet people from all over the world in one place.

What motivates me is peace, I guess. I’m also aware that life can feel short, so I try to live in the present and enjoy every moment. This feeling has been a big part of what’s pushed me to explore the world and connect with others through Workaway.

What brings me happiness is my dog, Lomo! I’ll miss him greatly when I leave the UK again—but it also means I get especially excited to meet other people’s pets wherever I go! I also really enjoy spending time with friends and relaxing after a hard day’s work.

I get excited by travelling, good food, and meeting new people. I love the process of planning where to go and what to do—almost as much as the travelling itself! Food has always been a passion of mine. I love trying new dishes and eating what the locals eat. When you find that special place making a special plate that makes you go *mmmmm!*—it’s one of life’s greatest pleasures.

On this trip I’ve already met so many interesting people, but the fast pace of travel sometimes makes it hard to get to know them properly. That’s part of what excites me about a hostel Workaway—the opportunity to settle in, share time, and form deeper connections over the course of a month or more.

I’ve just returned home to the UK after travelling through Asia and spending time in Mexico, and now I’m about to embark on a journey through South America, starting in Colombia. I'm also working on improving my Spanish which is currently at an intermediate to upper-intermediate level.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

So, I've been a chef for a number of years so I am more than capable of cooking meals and helping out with recipes. I have also worked in hospitality for a number of years so i'm comfortable working with the public and I have been part of a team running/managing a restaurant so I can understand how important these projects are to the people running them!

I have a teaching english as a foreign language qualification and a degree in English Literature so I can help with learning the English language.

I have worked briefly in construction and therefore I am not afraid of a little hard work! Although don't trust me to build a house.
