Hi, my name is Martin. I am from Germany and am 19 years old. With workaway I want to get to know foreign countries, unfamiliar living styles and cultures. Thereby I intend to explore myself and find out who I am and what type of living I prefer.
First of all it brings me happiness to make other people happy and to be happy together with them. In my opinion this form of social cohesion and exchange is extremely important for our society. Therefore it motivates me to get involved in a peaceful humanity.
Furthermore I really enjoy being outside and experience the nature's rough beauty. There is so much to discover in the innumerable ecosystems of our world! That is also one reason for me to preserve these unique nature systems and to see ourselves as a part of them. Thinking about possibilities of sustainibility and awareness of nature is one of my passions, as well as pondering about other philosophical or societal problems. Sometimes, I am quite contemplative and free-spirited, exploring the world of thought. On the other hand, I love to exchange ideas with others and learn about their perspectives on the world. It is so fascinating how differently we perceive our surroundings and what opinions we have about them!
Of course it makes me happy to listen to good music as well and to discover new music by sharing it with others. From my point of view, music offers room for emotional empathy, reflecting the differing states of our soul. I practise part of it by playing the saxophone for eight years and going to dancing school.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I am interested in a lot of different activities and themes. Firstable I am a passionate sportsman and participated at some school athletics competitions as well as at many international orienteering competitions. It is not just the running part of this wonderful sport that makes it unique and fascinating (because one runs through lovely nature!), but especially the challenging mental task of reading a map while running. Therefore I am able to focus on tasks for a longer time without getting bored or unfocused.
Besides, I really like solving logical problems, since I am quite good at maths and (computer) science. In Germany, I passed the Abitur (high school diploma), however I do not believe that school is everything. Far more important is the ability to develop a personality and to reflect on oneself. I constantly think about myself, about my opinions and my values, combining them with new impressions I get every day. In addition, it is essential for me to be open to criticism. I am able to work as part of a team and communicate effectively and in a friendly manner with others. In this regard, I also consider it important to be punctual and reliable. At the same time, I am also pretty good at organizing and disciplining myself.
Since I am extremely fond of the outdoors, I know my way around the animal and plant world. I enjoy identifying and marveling at species that are unknown to me. Likewise, I am interested in all aspects of natural geography, such as geology, hydrology, etc. I do have a sense of the interconnections, cycles and systems of nature that all work together.
In my life so far, I have been able to gain some useful experience, such as in a nursing home where I helped people in need of care and in a gardening where I worked several times. Sometimes it does me a lot of good to just switch off and do some practical work. For instance, I regularly repair my bicycle myself. That also helps to relieve stress and just try something completely different.
A great and unusual experience was my school exchange in Ukraine, where I got to know the Eastern European mentality.
