Hello! I’m Cosmina (you can also call me Cosmi). I’m originally from Romania, but I spent almost ten years living in the Czech Republic after first arriving there through an Erasmus exchange. What was meant to be a short stay ended up becoming a long and meaningful chapter of my life.

I’ve been using Workaway on and off since 2020, and each experience has been special in its own way. After about a year and a half of exploring life back in Romania, I feel ready to return to Workaway and discover new places, people, and perspectives again.

A little about me: I’m curious, adaptable, and thoughtful. I enjoy meaningful conversations, learning how people live in different environments, and contributing wherever I stay. I try to keep a balanced lifestyle — I practice Pilates daily, love hiking in nature, and enjoy reading and exploring different forms of meditation.

While living in Romania recently, I volunteered at a local cat shelter, which reflects something important to me: I care deeply about animal welfare and try to support animals whenever I can.

I’m also interested in social systems and community life – wherever I live, I like staying civically engaged and thinking about how communities can function better. Even when I return to my hometown for just a family visit, I feel a strong civic pull.

My academic background is in Environmental Engineering, and I later completed a Master’s degree in Journalism. Professionally, I’ve worked mainly in office-based roles where I had to be a bit of a jack-of-all-trades, handling a variety of tasks related to communication, translation, administration, and helping people navigate systems and platforms.

Through Workaway, I’m especially interested in experiences that involve nature, animals, community living, or meaningful cultural exchange. I’m happy to help with everyday tasks such as cooking, cleaning, organizing spaces, caring for animals, or assisting with small projects around the house or garden. I would also enjoy helping with communication, writing, social media, or supporting projects that involve guests.

I’m generally easy to live with, enjoy shared meals and conversations, but also respect people’s space and routines.

Having experienced expat life, belonging and cultural identity are big topics for me. These days, I think of belonging as something you build—through nature, through meaningful connections, and by staying true to yourself. That’s the kind of experience I’m looking for through Workaway.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

One of my most meaningful long-term volunteering experiences was through the European Voluntary Service (EVS) in Iceland. There, I was responsible for implementing environmental policies in three hostels and a campsite. It gave me hands-on experience with waste sorting and eco-management—topics I had already explored during my Environmental studies.

I’ve also volunteered in permaculture settings, helping with tasks like setting up irrigation systems, weeding, planting and harvesting. I have experience cooking large meals for groups and enjoy contributing to shared meals and communal living. I've also experience managing a campsite through Workaway.

Over the years, I’ve supported various local organizations alongside my regular job. My tasks have ranged from working in a café for people with physical disabilities to stone stacking, fence building, paving with stones, gardening, compost maintenance, collecting firewood, and even animal care.
