Hello, I am Martin, from France. I worked as a professional for a few years after I graduated uni, then realized I didn't want to spent that much time sitting in front of a computer for my late 20's. So, I decided to apply for a working holiday visa and here I am in Canada since September 2024!

I am into outdoor activities like fishing, hiking, camping, etc. One of the main reasons I came to Canada is fishing - this is a lifelong passion of mine and the availability of fishing influences where I seek workaways! I am also a keen trail runner and in Canada have already participated in two trail races, and volunteered at another.

I take pride in my work and am enthusiastic about learning new skills, especially if this involves being outside and working with my hands. Once I am clear about my instructions, I can work independently without direction. I can also work well in a team; for the winter of 2024/25 I worked in a hostel in a small and close team who all lived together, where communication was very important.
Also, during this time, I met Eleanor with who I'm traveling with now :) (her profile should be connected to mine). Since, we've experienced many workaways together from Vancouver Island to Gaspesie. However, we are considering to split for this summer so Ellie can find something relative to horses (her passion) and me around fishing.

I enjoy the exchange that workaway provides where I get to help people out in exchange for local knowledge, plenty of time to explore the area, and more often than not delicious food! I enjoy meeting new people and sharing good conversations, but I also appreciate my quiet time.

I am interested in doing work with my hands, and learning from people who have skills to pass on. I also want to keep improving my English, and as a native French speaker I can also be of help in an environment where people are wanting to improve their French, or need a bilingual person for things like customer facing roles.

Also, I have my own vehicle.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Since coming to Canada, I've done a lot of work in hospitality, volunteering in hostels. This has involved cleaning, front desk, making coffee, and minor repairs and maintenance. I am comfortable driving quad bikes. As a teenager, I worked on poultry farms and corn farms. At another workaway, I helped to renovate a sauna: removing the old wood and cutting, sanding, and protecting the new wood to reinstall it.
