I currently live in Western Massachusetts USA with my wife. My town has a population of 2500. I am interested in renovation and general home improvement such as painting and general restoration.
Description
I am a 63 year old retired police officer. I retired as Deputy Chief of Police in a department with 62 police officers after 33 years. My wife and I live in Western Massachusetts USA. We have a 29 year old son who works in finance and is living in North Carolina. My wife works as a teacher (reading specialist) in the local elementary school and is not due to retire until Spring 2025. Since retiring I have worked full-time as an apprentice in a high-end woodworking shop and I now work part-time as a bus driver for the local schools. As a woodworker, I have made many fine pieces of early American furniture. (see all photos that include furniture and wainscotting)
Just before the pandemic, my wife Kathy and I were due to spend three weeks traveling in France to celebrate my retirement. It would have been our third trip to France but it was not to be. I still feel the urge to experience an immersive experience in France while using my skills to help others. My greatest joy comes from renovating furniture/buildings to bring them back to their orginal beauty. I have experience with demolition, sheetrock, painting, striping, roofing, and with many power tools and woodworking machines. I have a fully outfitted wood shop at my home (see photos).
I am looking to spend two or three weeks in France this summer (between late July and late August 2024 helping with tasks that would use the skills noted above. I am in good health (no medications or ailments) and can easily work 4 hours per day at physcial labor. I enjoy the company of both adults and children of any age. My school bus driving gives me great joy. I enjoy dogs and cats and was a mounted police officer for 5 years in my police department. We have a 2 year-old Australian Shepherd that I walk (off leash) 2 hours per day 5 days per week. So as to be as transparentas possible, I've included photos of myself, my wife Kathy, our dog Callie, our large New England colonial-reproduction home, my on-site woodshop, my 1954 Plymouth, and a few of my furniture projects over the years.Centres d’intérêt

Autres infos...
l would like to use the time when I am not helping my host family by traveling the area and finding places to visit and eat. I would have a rental car during my time and would not be a burden to my host family in terms of expected tours, meals, etc. but would certainly welcome them. I am very comfortable being alone but also enjoy people and hearing their stories. As you might imagine, after 33 years in law enforcement, I have a few stories of my own and am happy to share. Politically, I lean left (democratic) and have lived in a very liberal area of the US my whole life. I enjoy going for walks, reading and listening to all kinds of music. That said, I very much enjoy people, learning about their experiences and having a glass of wine or beer. I love history and am currently enjoying a 1000 page book about Winston Churchill.
