  • Description

We are a small, family owned, award winning bar, tea room and restaurant located on the smallest permanently inhabited island in the Inner Hebrides on the west coast of Scotland. We require an experienced chef and front of house staff to help us this year.
We are first and foremost a central hub for the tiny, vibrant community that live here permanently (70 people) however our business relies on a busy tourism season from Easter to October. During that time we are open 7 days a week. Some days can be absolutely hectic and others quieter. Our business can be very weather dependant as visitors arrive by a tiny open ferry boat. Through the summer we work long hours but we are a small, close knit team that thrive under pressure and work well together.
We specialise in promoting Scottish produce within our business supporting local fishermen and farmers in our rural location. We pride ourselves in providing a friendly, warm welcome to both visitors and residents and enjoy many events throughout the year including speciality food nights, karaoke, fancy dress and theme nights.
Our island is tiny and steeped in industrial history having been quarried for slate for over a century. The island landscape reflects this past history with 7 flooded quarries, rows of tiny white slate quarriers cottages and mounds of slate deposits. Located in the Firth of Lorn the island boasts terrific seaviews of the Atlantic and neighbouring islands. The island is only a quarter mile by half a mile wide but has a harbour, a community hall which hosts an annual arts programme, a folk museum and the island hosts the annual World Stone Skimming Championships at the end of September.
Scotland is renowned for its midges (tiny biting insects) in the summer months but we are very lucky here. A sea breeze is usually not far away so we are only bothered by these pesky insects in the early morning and early evening when the wind dies down.
