  Description

  Our family homestead and our farm animals need someone to help take care of them, so basically it's about house and animal sitting, with a bit of gardening and maintenance care. We provide a separate T0 studio for your accomodation, and we also have a big house which could be rented.
  We would like someone who appreciates the nature and would like to care for this little treasure that our parents built up for almost 30 years. The natural surroundings and garden will be at your doorstep, and there is enough space where you can also develop your own projects.
  Daily tasks include taking care of the animals (1 older easy going horse, 2 cats and chickens?); and gardening/watering ☺. Other tasks would be some general maintenance, like painting, or cleaning of the house and garden areas.

  We are open to help you explore your interests and the area. As we grew up here we are actively integrated in the portuguese society, knowing about its social, cultural and historical development. We can help you get around to get to know the main villages and other places of interest.
  This region is so rich in natural beauty and variety, from the more rural quiet countryside to the stunning Atlantic coastline and Natural Park, so it is perfect for outdoor activities like hiking, bicycle riding, horse riding, surfing, canoeing, fishing, etc.
  My brother - Paulo is super handy in DIY maintenance, building and mechanical stuff, besides knowing the best surf and fishing spots.
  Me - Anna am a horse trainer and riding teacher at Moita Nova Equestre, I would help and guide you with the care of our animals. You would get the possibility to practice or learn about a very special natural horsemanship, bonding with the horses and experiencing the effect on our human well-being and personal development. And also about their natural care (freedom based, barefoot, bitless) or more specific areas like rehabilitation, osteopathy, physiotherapy, nutrition. There may even be opportunity to attend riding lessons at Moita Nova Equestre.

  Aide

  Animal care involves a quick basic daily routine and a big sense of responsibility! (but you shouldn't mind getting dirty, being in the rain, sun, mud and dust because you will have to look for them every day).
  The horses are kept in a very easy natural way, so they are always outside in the fields. Daily care includes watering, checking for their health, feeding and medicating the older horse, ev. checking/repairing the electric fence and feeding hay or grass when needed. If you are confident and enjoy being around them you can include some grooming because they really need and appreciate all the attention. The horse Max and the 2 cats Rosita and Pirata are best friends and are always ready for some cuddles.
  
  Help on a Farmstead is relaxed but sometimes also physical - so you must be reasonably fit and enjoy being outdoors. We would love someone who can help on his/her own initiative - able to work independently, as we don't live on the property. It would be great if you bring some life skills such as basic DIY, basic use of tools, cleaning, maintenance tasks, being able to paint, chop wood, cut weeds/bushes, bring in firewood, and be confident around the animals.
  We would be more than happy if you want to bring in your own ideas and projects like for eg. having your own vegetable garden as the land is really fertile and carefully kept biological for years.

  Hébergement

  You would get your own little apartment, with private kitchenette, bathroom and terrace, as well as the garden. As it is a small but open concept, it only has one room with a double bed, on the mezzanine/1st floor, reachable by a stair. it is best suitable for one person or a couple.
  You would be responsible for your own food and ingredients but sometimes we can also do a big meal or cook together.

  The farm is in the middle of the countryside, but with good access, just about 300m from the asphalt road, and 5 km from the closest village Porto Covo and the beach. Next towns are Vila Nova de Milfontes, Santiago do Cacém, Sines, Cercal do Alentejo.
  We really think you should have your own transport, as buses and public transports are rare.
  We value 'down time' for both ourselves, and volunteers; in your time off you can just relax and enjoy your stay, go to the beach (5km) in the summer or during a rainy winter day watch a movie, do a puzzle. You can also do some sporty activities like yoga, swimming, go for walks. (Rota Vicentina). There are frequent traditional markets and also some cultural happenings like concerts, etc.
