We have a 2.5 acre mature fruit orchard in the Sierra Laguna, Baja Sur. Our fruit just falls for fun, but we eat what we can. Located in a lush, tropical orchard valley, we are a little over an hour from San Jose del Cabo and La Paz in a rural respite, full of doves cooing and roosters. Our property is located on the Ojo de Agua, the eye of San Bartolo, a natural spring that is responsible for the lushness of this area. There is a great spot to swim in the spring, a five-minute walk from our gate.
Lots of Spanish in this valley, but we can help you if you don't know the language. This is a unique opportunity to be surrounded by the lusciousness of rural Mexico, without being terribly uncomfortable (yes, we have AC!). The food is divine, the people are very kind and the orchard valley is a one-of-a-kind setting on the Baja peninsula. Workers will learn about the regional foods of the Sierra Laguna mountain range of Baja Sur, cultural norms and expectations in Mexico, and have an immersion experience in navigating rural Mexico.
Every year after storm season, the orchard requires a sweep, picking up all branches and fallen fruit. We keep the place well maintained during the year, but no amount of prep prevents the chaos of a hurricane! We are looking for a few short days of help this year, with the opportunity to bask in rural Baja Sur as a return. Accommodations are comfortable, the food is delicious and we are pretty good company. The work will be about 4 hours a day, followed by whatever lounging or exploring appeals to you. This is a great place to reflect and reset the effects of our modern society. Come pick up branches and throw mangoes to the cows with us!
One bd apartment with queen-size bed, glamping tent with AC, queen-sized bed.
There is much to see in the mountains, but we are happy to help you get to the beach as well. The bus comes by our drive and heads to both San Jose del Cabo and La Paz. The local attraction, the Ojo de Agua, is a five minute walk out the back gate. There is a gorgeous waterfall 45 min away in Santiago and lots of mountain trails and bird watching to the north. Maximum stay is 3 weeks.
