    Description

This 6.5acre (2.63hectare) plot - half woodlands and half water meadow - is a Site of Biological Importance. We are working to improve habitats and biodiversity. Learn woodland management and woodland crafts.

Our house in the village of Rudyard is equipped with many eco-technologies: solar hot water, solar electricity, rainwater harvesting, wood-fired cooking, heating and hot water, and eco toilets. An1800s house adapted for low-carbon living.

We grow ORGANIC VEGETABLES for or own use in the home garden and in a new plot on the meadow. We are moving towards biodynamic growing.

We are seeking energetic volunteers, who can stay from one to three weeks. NO PRIOR KNOWLEDGE NEEDED. Accommodation in our home for up to 3 single persons or a couple (shared room with own shower).

We provide good food, comfortable accommodation and a warm welcome. We are LGBT friendly

    Aide

We offer a variety of tasks depending on season, weather and current priorities. . Being self-sufficient in firewood, the moving, cutting, splitting of wood is an ongoing task.

We have been working with RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) to improve the habitat for wildlife in our woods. We have agreed a long-term programme of work, which we started in Spring 2015.

We have also established a new organic vegetable growing area in our meadow, which will enable us to be more self-sufficient in vegetables. This will be based on biodynamic principles.

Members of the Woodland Trust, Soil Association and CAT, holding qualifications in sustainable woodland management, we can also teach making preserves and soft cheese.
