The idea behind our project is as old as sailing itself: A sustainable life at sea, far away from the political and economic struggle of the mainland. ‘True freedom’ you could say. Whilst the dream of sailing for many people turned out to be no more than a daydream, the winds of change are upon us. Some of the biggest changes have left an ever-growing number of older and decommissioned boats to rot in or out of marinas around the world. With the hands screwed on correctly, anyone can find a cheap or free boat, fix it up, and start a new life chapter.
“The freedom to roam where intuition guides, to go where food is cheap or free and to live without that “big brother is watching you” feeling, does not seem to be possible on land. The real estate tax, sales tax, income tax, social security tax, etc Cut it loose! Get a boat and head for the open sea”
~Kenneth Neumeyer in ‘Sailing the farm’
Q: “So you just live at a boat and that’s it?”
A: “No, let me tell you something...
Not only is the sea a place full of wonders and riches, but also provides ways of transporting entire communities, connecting with projects and initiatives everywhere with sea access (you’ll find that most of the world), and dive in and out of society as you please, all of this without being dependent on anyone or anything except the wind and weather.
We are an NGO and nonprofit community of sailors, artists, carpenters, circus performers, makers, musicians, volunteers and activists from around Europe and the world who have joined forces to create the project, which aims to bring music, events, circus performance and art to harbours both remote and central, and use the attention to host workshops in recycled low-tech solutions for a more creative and eco-concious life. To inspire and teach the mindset and skills of upcycling and D.I.Y. culture and to facilitate social spaces and events for local activists, creative initiatives, curious individuals and anyone wanting to leave a positive footprint for a better world.
Welcome aboard, grab your paddle, hoist your sails and join us under the black flag!

Travelers will learn what it means to live in a truly anarchist community. With no hierarchy, we make our decisions consensus-based and everyone has equal input. We also hope to teach travelers skills in woodwork, metalwork, art, music, sailing, event hosting and a variety of other skills. We are very much hoping to learn from you as well!
The way we work is very much based on the principle "if you see a job, it's yours." We believe in D.I.Y culture and taking personal responsibility for your actions. This means ask questions and present your own solutions so we can move forward in the best way possible.
Although we have a lot of practical work to do, we love that people come and bring whatever vision they have to the project that could spice us up even more. Some things we could use some hands with include: Boat renovation, woodwork, metalwork, gardening, art, music, cooking for ourselves, helping create a website and maintaining a strong social media presence, hosting events (we have access to a pretty cool venue where we can throw any kind of event we want, so if you have any ideas don't hesitate to bring them to the table!), theatrical/circus performance, sailing, and whatever else you'd like to contribute!
Among our 5 boats, we have recently purchased a 20 meter, 75-year-old fishing boat named Fryden Strand. This has become our biggest priority in terms of renovation, raising funding for repairs, and getting her ready to sail the seven seas. If you already own a boat or are in the market then let us know! Although we are currently residing in Svendborg, our dream is to one day create a nomadic fleet capable of traveling the world.

Volunteers will be offered a place to sleep on one of our boats (we currently have 5). Depending on the number of volunteers, a personal room may not be provided but we will certainly arrange your own bed to sleep in. It is important that guests know how to "rough it" and don't expect a life of showers, laundry, and luxury. We have a single heater for our 20m fishing vessel, the mothership, but the other boats are unheated, so bring a warm sleeping bag and jacket! All of our food is dumpster dived (we eat like kings) and we have access to a kitchen for cooking food. Toilets are located about 50m from the mothership.
We will not have strict "working hours", but we appreciate that you put time into making our project improve. Svendborg is a beautiful town and we would love to show you around and create awesome events with you!
