    Description

Hi! I’m Keith. I live in a small town in NW Ireland where I used to run a B&B and publish a community tourism magazine. Recently, I started a new project in a nearby town in Northern Ireland. It’s a residential community facility that focuses on peace building and education. It’s not a commercial business, but a “not-for-profit” that needs lots of volunteers!

The centre is in a town in the west of Northern Ireland in a very scenic area, which has a theatre, cinema, lots of shops, restaurants & pubs, sports centre with swimming pool and lots of activities to do in the area. There is a good bus service to Dublin, Belfast, Londonderry and Galway. Belfast airport is 1 ½ hours and Dublin airport 2 hours away.

Since 2012, hundreds of volunteers from many countries have helped our projects. We are very grateful for their help and friendship. Many have become our good friends and the reviews show most had an excellent time. Some people come for two weeks; most come for two or three months and some stay a year or come back for a second, third or even fourth visit!

    Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre

You will get a good experience of Irish culture, history, politics, nature, arts and community interests. I will help you improve your English. I also attend a local church, and you can come, if you like.

You will receive a Certificate in Voluntary Service for your CV, so potential employers distinguish you from other applicants!

On your days off explore Ireland. I can help you plan trips. Galway, Derry, Belfast and UNESCO world-heritage site, The Giants' Causeway, Slieve League cliffs – Europe’s highest sea cliffs, all make excellent trips.

Contact me today if you would like to volunteer with us!

    Thank you!

    Keith

The community centre needs a team of about 6 volunteers to help repair, clean, paint, tidy, cook and help with some admin as well as a carpenter & plasterer. Volunteers normally help 4 days a week. The hours can vary. If we are busy one day, you can take time off another day. If you have something special you need to do, we will do our best to work with that.

Our priorities change, so you need to be the sort of person who can cope with change! In the years I have managed volunteers, those who have the best time are positive, friendly and open. They work together, help each other, and know how to enjoy themselves.

    CLOTHING
Ireland is a beautiful green country but can be wet [at times] - wait a minute, it's dry ... nope, it's raining! Because you will do some outdoor work, please be sure to bring
    1. your own pair of work boots
    2. a warm waterproof jacket
    3. work gloves, if you wear work gloves when helping outside.
    4. your own lap top computer, especially if you plan to help with office.

At present we live in a townhouse in the village and the volunteers have a shared bedroom. Soon we plan to move into the centre.

We have meals together and, if you are asked to cook, we welcome you to try a recipe from your country. You help with washing up and keeping the place tidy. At weekends you usually provide for your own meals.

You will need to bring your own laptop. For wifi, you can buy an unlimited data SIM card in the local shop for only €20

We know that volunteers want to experience Irish culture and see the country, so we encourage you to travel on your days off to explore Ireland. Galway, Derry, Belfast and UNESCO world-heritage site, The Giants' Causeway, Slieve League cliffs - the highest sea cliffs in Europe, all make excellent trips for your free days, either at the weekend or during the week. I have plenty of experience with tourism and can help you plan your trips.

Lookig forward to hearing forward to hearing from you soon.
