    Description

    LOOKING FOR:

Hi, I'm Kiana :) and I live aboard my boat , a 1974 Wharram Narai Mk I. Our current home port is Paraty, Rio de Janeiro. It is a beautiful, quaint colonial town with unmatched culture and vibrancy.

    I'm looking for someone to:
-Help with upkeep and cleaning of the boat
    and/or
    -Help with social media content
    and/or
-Help with carpentry and boat maintenance

I'll be running day charters 2-5 days a week during the Brazilian summer season, working around 8 hours per day on those days, and assisting on some of these charters will be your primary job.

There’s so much natural beauty around Paraty, and it's the perfect place to explore while living life on the water. You'll be gaining experience on living aboard a sailboat, working with tools, and charters!

    REQUIREMENTS:

No specific experience is necessary, as attitude is what matters most to me. You should enjoy cooking, eating simple meals, and feel comfortable in the water and in the rain-forest since you'll be surrounded by it! Cleanliness and organization are key to life onboard, so if cleaning isn’t your thing, this might not be the right fit. Also, an upbeat, proactive attitude is crucial, as we’ll be living closely together.

    THE WORK:

I am mainly looking for help to make the day charter experiences as smooth and enjoyable for guests as possible. Your tasks will likely include: welcoming guests on board, making sure everyone is feeling happy and safe throughout the day, occasional help with boat maneuvers, and disembarking guests at the end of the day.

Outside of charters any other tasks are mostly centered around cleaning and general maintenance. This might include scrubbing the decks, airing out the boat, organizing provisions, or scraping the hull, and helping with general repairs and maintenance.

If we have guests onboard for day charters, you might help with cleaning or laundry. Some basic carpentry or wood repairs may also be involved, and if you're into social media, I'd love a hand with that! On charter days, you’ll assist in running trips and ensuring guests have a memorable experience.

It’s not all work, though! There’s plenty of time to relax, whether it’s reading, yoga, hiking, exploring Paraty, or enjoying the sunset after a full day.

    THE BOAT:

This is a 41ft Wharram catamaran, designed to be practical and comfortable. While it’s nowhere near a luxury yacht, there’s ample deck space. The accommodations are simple: a single bunk with a bucket toilet system (no flushing toilets here!) and an outdoor shower, either by bucket on deck or on the beach using a fresh spring-fed shower.

    INTERESTED? ASK YOURSELF FIRST:

Am I an independent person that does not need to be entertained on my downtime, and can easily occupy myself, on the boat or off?
    Can I manage cold showers?
Am I comfortable scrubbing the hull for a few hours in and out of the water?
Am I flexible enough to handle changing tasks and priorities?
Am I reliable and able to stay calm and focused in an emergency?

    YOUR MESSAGE:

Confirm that you’ve read and understood everything.
List at least three meals you’re comfortable cooking.
Share how you hope to spend your downtime.
Tell me what you’re hoping to gain from your time aboard .

I have been living on the ocean aboard incredibly simple and rustic voyaging canoes for nearly a decade. I can share tips and tricks and my experiences living at sea for so long in all corners of the Atlantic Ocean.

I was born in the United States but grew up in Brazil and have family in the Caribbean and Europe, so I am easily able to relate to different cultures.

  • Aide

    Aide

-Assisting on day charters, primarily with guest interaction, secondarily with sailing.
-Cleaning and organization of the boat, as well as preparations for hosting day charters (creating a welcoming and comfortable environment for guests).
-Social media content creation (I am someone who is very averse to content creation, so if this is a passion of yours, and you'd like to combine it with the experience of living aboard a sailboat for a period of time, I could really use your help).
-Woodworking and general maintenance. This is a 50-year-old wooden catamaran, and it's home base is now a rain-forest, so maintenance is a constant task.

You will not be required to assist with all of the tasks listed above, it is just a general guideline. So if you know you shine in any of the areas above, please let me know and we will make the best use out of your skills!

Primarily I do need help with day charters.

    Hébergement

Single bunk in the "library" (what I call the port-side hull). I will provide sheets and blankets. If you can bring a pillow that is best, if not I will provide one.

I will provide provisions weekly, which will include staples like rice, beans, lentils, oats, fruits, vegetables, milk, and coffee. I will cook some meals, but it will be mostly up to you to cook for yourself (this schedule we will determine once you get on board, or through messaging if you'd like clarification beforehand).

You will have access to a rowing dinghy so that you can get ashore when you choose.

Paraty is a wonderful place to explore and make friends. Great cafes and restaurants, plenty of hiking trails and waterfalls, good public transportation, and fun night life.

I've lived alone for the greater part of the last 6 years, so it will be an interesting experience for me to host Workawayers. I do spend some time off the boat, so there will still be plenty of space for privacy and alone-time. However, sometimes I do appreciate being on board alone, and hope that on days off you are able to occupy yourself ashore (this can be more clearly communicated and scheduled once you are on board, or through messaging).
