  • Description

    Description

This is an international NGO based in the Bekaa Valley - about an hour drive from Beirut - working to provide support to vulnerable Syrians and Lebanese with supplementary education, health awareness, community-based projects and targeted aid. Our main goal is to provide support and comfort to vulnerable populations here in Lebanon.

My name is Amir, the volunteer coordinator. We host volunteers year-round to help run our projects. Since 2016, more than 500 volunteers from many different countries have come to help us.

Volunteering here is an experience like no other. There are a few factors that make the experience with us unique.

You will be on the ground daily, directly helping vulnerable communities nearby informal tent settlements. You will meet the beneficiaries and create meaningful connections. It is a great opportunity to share your skills and make a difference in their lives. The cultural exchange is what a lot of former volunteers said they found the most rewarding.

You will also become part of our volunteer "family". The volunteers that come here are of all ages and from different backgrounds and are passionate about helping others. It is inspiring to be surrounded by people that uphold the same values of solidarity. During our free time, we hang out, eat together and learn from each other. Many life-long friendships are formed while working and living with such a passionate group of individuals.

As we are a small NGO, the coordinators are always interested to hear feedback and different ideas from volunteers. We all try to make the projects as good as they can be. It is rewarding when your idea is implemented on the field. Don't worry if you don't have experience in the humanitarian field as, the coordination team will induct you thoroughly on your first day to make sure you are briefed on the cultural and security context in Bekaa Valley. It is a great place to see how an NGO is run and learn new skills. We also encourage our volunteers to initiate new projects or solicit for donations, but we would ask you to contact us in advance to ensure that these correspond with our mission statement.

We are looking for open-minded, driven and dedicated volunteers to be part of our team. The average number of volunteers is up to 15 at a time. Our main projects are educationally-based with young children. Other projects include, a birthday project for young refugees, teaching English, community dinners, a women's project and aid distributions.

While we need volunteers from all kinds of backgrounds, there are particular skills that we are looking for that are necessary to keep our current projects running. while we expect you will stay with us for a minimum of three weeks we are particularly looking for volunteers who can stay with us for two or three months.

Particular skills we currently need support with:

    - The ability to run or help teach English classes from absolute beginners to conversational students.
    - Skills in assisting students with basic numeracy and literacy in English and maths.
    - Arabic skills - not necessary but highly valuable!
    - Working in early childhood education and with developmental play for young children.
    - Interest and skills in helping the organisation with fundraising applications.
    - Ability to drive in Lebanon – this is more helpful than you think - just remember that you need an International Driving Permit that must be obtained in your home country.

    Hébergement

We have a volunteer-led house with several dorm rooms. Each volunteer is expected to participate in our weekly cooking and cleaning schedule. House rent is due each Monday. As we are a charity, we ask for $35 (USD) a week. All revenue from this goes straight back into covering rent and funding the work we do. There is also a shower, communal living room area and a big kitchen.
